How to Install Additional Wiring to Add an Outdoor FloodLight

preview_player
Показать описание
In this tutorial video, I show you how to tap into a power source, a pool light switch, to add constant power for an outdoor Security Floodlight. PVC pipe is installed to weather proof the outdoor wiring and attached to an outlet box. As always, be sure to turn off the power from the breaker before touching any wiring. Also, poorly wired or poorly protected live wires my cause fires, please be careful.

Great Video Man. I can’t believe there’s 50 people that didn’t like the video, I bet it was so difficult for them to do it themselves, so they ended up paying for labor and parts. 🤦🏽‍♂️. Thank you so much for your time.

I wish every instructional video was like this. Thanks !

Call me crazy, but I use my amp/volt meter on everything that runs power even after I pull the breaker. Not everyone knows how to use a meter so I can understand why you might have just left that out. I really liked this video and the addition is aesthetically pleasing to the eye ! Great job !

Thank you for taking the time to create this video. Next time you should drill into the brick itself, not the joints using a masonry bit.

Thanks for the video. Please try not to say positive and negative. The black wire is NOT ground. The black wire usually is the HOT SIDE and the white wire is neutral. Still, thanks for taking the time.

Outside covered patio considered a wet location by code if I'm correct. Can't use Romex in that conduit, had to use UF

Thanks, this is almost exactly what I need to do, so this video was extremely helpful. Nice walkthrough!

Nice job with this video. But for good habit when cutting conduit, you should always have that female flare pointing down. This way you are not relying on the PVC glue to keep water out. (Same thing as your roof shingles point down).

Thank you, thank you lol..this is EXACTLY what I'm getting ready to do tomorrow and you covered everything I wasn't sure of. You have almost the same set-up as me. Again, thanks for taking the time and effort to make this !

I know most people won’t have all the perfect tools for the job watching this Being done with that long flat head needle nose cutters to cut the wire and scissors to strip the casing was kind a rough LOL

can you tap into a receptacle...also...same concept....instead of a switch ...its a receptacle in my garage. I need to do the same thing but trying to tap into a receptacle in my garage.. and run wire to front of my garage to install flood lights.

You should be using 12 gauge on a 20 amp circut

You aren't allowed to run interior grade romex (white/yellow/orange sheath) in exterior conduit. If you are hell-bent on using romex you'd have to use UF-B wire and make sure the pipe is sufficiently large enough to satisfy max conduit fill requirements. For 14/2 use 3/4" and 12/2 use 1" to be safe. But it is better to and all around easier to just use THWN. Also 20amp = 12 gauge wire not 14! Trim your wires as well (the blue one) which is just waiting to cause a short! Not a great how to.

Is it safe to have constant power to the floodlights? I've noted all floodlights installed professionally are connected to a switch and can be turned on/off there instead of the mains. Could that be a requirement of county electrical fixtures code?

you showed wire stripper in the beginning of the video but when you were cutting wires later in the video, you didn't use that tool :) you used scissor and long nose plier
