it hurts me that aging is so feared. aging is a privilege that so many people don’t get to experience

The fact that women under 35 are getting these procedures is insane.

No amount of Botox will keep you from becoming worm food when it’s your time. Just let yourself have wrinkles. My god

At 42 I'm glad to be aging, because as a widow that lost their spouse when they were 35 and I 34, aging is a fucking *gift* that not everyone gets to experience. While I sometimes feel dissatisfied by my wrinkles or my body and other things that aging affects... I remind myself that I could be young beautiful and dead, or older, still beautiful with some flaws and alive. And alive is definitely my choice 100%

In my opinion, Botox should only be encouraged for use when it's medically necessary. For example, my coworker's sister gets Botox in one of her muscles due to lifelong pain due to a muscle malfunctioning (now no pain at all!)
My school counselor actually had botulism poisoning from a local restaurant, and it took her years to recover. Several people who ate the same food didn't make it.

I'm 56. I've never had botox, filler, plastic surgery. I have wrinkles, collagen loss, sagging, etc. And I've earned every bit of these from living life. I have no plans for any procedures in the future.

This is one of those things where just because we can, doesn't mean we should. Be kind to yourselves.❤❤

I don't understand fillers or Botox at all. I'm avoiding all of it. In the end, I'll look younger than the people starting them at 20.

We also need to discuss negative effects of lack of facial expression if you are a mom with a newborn. There was a study about psychological effects of babies with moms with neutral facial expressions.

I got botox injections in my legs for muscle spasms a few years after they were approved for medical use. Unfortunately the doctor used too large of a dose, as she suspected later, so I ended up not being able to walk for 3 months. This lead to muscle wasting because no amount of movement or weight bearing prevents wasting when the muscle has been incapacitated by a neurotoxin. If my doctor, who provided the injections as a means of offering pain relif, could mess it up and leave me with permanent changes then the idea of going to some "botox bar" or someone's home for botox injections is utterly insane to me.

Gen Z: pollution, PFAs, and plastic are bad!
Also gen z: injecting botulism and fillers is good!

It's easy to crap on these women. but when people keep mock frowning at you, or keep telling you you look angry, you start to think about it. I also thought I'd just age naturally, but horrific years long stress due to life events outside of my control that resulted in some 11's wrinkles, and I am seriously considering it. I miss having people not making mock frowns at me. Plus the fear of ageism at work. I get it, I really do.

horse trainers used to botox horses' tails so they couldn't swish them and their necks so they couldn't raise their heads above level. it's been banned for years now, but at one time it was common. so disgusting.

Every 3 months, I get 32 botox injections around my hairline, between my eyebrows, head, neck, and shoulders to help with severe migraines. Without the botox injections I was dealing with 20 plus debilitating migraines a month and missed out on a lot of family activities. Botox cut the amount of migraines I have each month in half and makes it easier to get deal with the ones I get.

One of the non-health related effects of botox is the change to your actual emotions. The brain to face is sort of a two way street. When we feel a certain emotion, the brain sends signals to the face that convey that emotion, but the brain routinely checks in with the face as well. It’s like it says “oh hey we are smiling I guess we’re happy” … limiting your ability to express emotions will also limit your ability to feel them.

I won’t lie and say I’m thrilled that at almost 25 the lines on my forehead don’t fully magically disappear anymore but I also want to just let my face be my face. I’ve always smiled big and had big facial expressions since I was a literal baby—I’m gonna get lines and wrinkles

My sister gets botox for her severe chronic migraine and I get botox in my mandible for my severe bruxism that is so bad that I’ve chewed through every single mouthguard possible. Cosmetic botox is unnecessary. People can get it if they want but it’s not needed. But some people do need it for medical purposes. If I don’t continue mine then my jaw clenches up tight, I grit my teeth to the point that it gives my headaches, and the enamel of my teeth grinds down smooth which isn’t good. So I’m stuck with this.

honestly screw plastic surgery, i never understood the hype around it, like half the people who get it in the first place already look pretty and then they go to a trend that will be out of date in a few years with extreme complications is gone wrong wth. Aging is a beautiful part of life we shouldn’t hate it

Many years ago when I did my internship for my medical secretary training I worked for the man who was pioneering the use of Botulinum toxins to experiment with stopping muscular issues for Myasthenia gravis, ALS, and Huntington's disease. The containers had skull and cross bones warnings 6 layers deep and we had to have a security guard at the door to the room. I started hearing people were using it cosmetically a few years later and I thought they were insane! You couldn't pay me any amount to put that stuff in my body.

My mom always told me never to buy food in dented tin cans because of botulism.
