How are they total herbivores if they eat insects?

1. The largest insect is the Goliath beetle if I remember correctly
2. That’s definitely a member of the order Orthoptera which most likely means it isn’t just herbivorous, but will pretty much eat anything it can get it’s mouthparts around including (if threatened, or if you’re a corpse) you! Plus I’m 90% sure that like all other Orthopterans they have a really painful bite.

Saw a gigantic grasshopper on my porch in Florida. It was about 8” in length and was green, red, yellow, blue and brown with black stripes.
By far the largest insect I’ve ever seen.
It was a great specimen to behold.

I use to have these in my back yard about 25 years ago. Things always freaked me out. I was like 11 the first time I saw one and ran and got my dad…. Sad thing was, I was the kid that would catch any bug or animal I came across….not that one though 😂
Even my dad found it odd how big they were. He laughed I was scared though. 😂
The ones I remember though were more of a purple to red color. Absolutely terrifying. I say that cause crickets are violent bugs that will literally eat their own. So one this big; if it shares the same bloodlust as its much smaller cousins. That could be threatening to a small animal…I started wearing shoes more often to say the least 😂
But I haven’t seen those things in a very long time. I figured they were just a freak of nature. Didn’t think they were their own classification.
