Here is a more simple way. Two linear equations: 1) - 3m + b = 1 and 2) 4m + b = 8. Subtract the second equation from the first and you get: - 7m = - 7 => m = 1. Then b = 4 (you can check it yourself). So the linear equation is: 1x + 4 = y or y = x + 4. :)

I, m 79 and doing this to refresh my memory from my school days.
A little mental exercise.

m=(8-1)/(4-(-3)) and y=x+b 1=-3+b b=4 m=1 so y=x+4 (or y=1x+4 depending on teacher's instruction)

Was able to solve by visual inspection, because of the 45-degree slope

Doing it graphically would be better also solving on standard form.

what is M,
y = mx + b -3, 1
y= mx+ b = 1, or say -1, if -1 then as follows
X= -3 given
mx = m = 0.6667 x -3 = 2, ard b = -1 = So y= 1
or MX + b = 1
M = 0, x = -3
ie Mx = 0 + 1 = y = 1
what is M
