Do You Need to Learn Phrasal Verbs? Are Phrasal Verbs Actually Used by English Speakers?

So you're learning English and you've discovered that learning phrasal verbs is a bit difficult. You might be wondering if you really need to learn them. Do native English speakers really use phrasal verbs in everyday speech? How could they? There are so many of them!

In this English lesson I'll examine a current song, a tv show, a Youtube video, and a news article and let you know if I find any phrasal verbs. I've also tried to keep track of how many times I've used phrasal verbs in English conversations over the last couple of days.

I won't give you the answer here as to whether you should learn phrasal verbs or not. I won't tell you if you should spend a lot or a little bit of time on it or no time at all. You'll just have to watch the video to find out what I discovered!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that you will learn a few phrasal verbs if you watch the lesson as well. It's more than just me talking about them. I give a few definitions along the way as well!

⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

Phrasal verbs are the bane of my English learning process. But I realize, for all the reasons you’ve mentioned, that I need to learn them by hook or by crook! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this research and make the lesson more relevant to everyday English. Thanks Mr. Bob. You never fail to amaze me with your diligence.

I would not have survived in Canada on my only visit if I didn’t know the phrasal verb “look for, ” because almost all of my conversations with people began with the words “Excuse me, can you help me? I'm looking for ..." Speaking and uderstanding English without phrasal verbs is out of the question.

Hello, teacher Bob. Phrasal verbs are the affliction of the learning process. But, I understood all the reasons that you've mentioned. I require to appreciate by hook by crook. I knew the phrasal verb is crucial for communicating with someone who doesn't know the incentive efficiently. I could memorize how can I build up phrasal verbs. This video is fascinating. I didn't know earlier phrasal verbs. Now, I comprehended and, captivated for conversation. I assimilated how to use in speaking and, understanding. I've also established phrasal verbs in books, novels, movies, etc. The empty phrasal verb we couldn't get communicated efficacy. You did a terrific job of elucidating this phrasal verb part of rudimentary grammar. Thanks a million, for the tremendous lesson. Have an ebullient day!😃😃

The fact that Mr. Bob captures his videos while he sits in front of the camera on the chair makes me smile :) This is reasonable idea to take videos in the outside, because there is really fascinating and lively everywhere now)

Hi Bob, I'm an Italian teacher teaching English. I came across your YouTube channel while I was looking for online materials for my students. I've recently found out that I memorise things better and faster when I listen to them and maybe the same goes for some of them. It' so amazing to hear you talking! Thank you so much 💓 you're so precious

Hy Teacher Bob! You know what, until recently phrasal verbs were my worst nightmare, I used to hate them ! At school, we were asked to not use them at all and I managed to avoid them, using words coming from the French such as Arriver, entrer, until I realized my English didn't seem natural at all . On top of that, I wasn’t able to understand what I wanted to read or with little acurracy. So I decided to bit the bullet and I ended up completly addicted ...And they gave me the opportunity to fill up lots of gaps in my vocabulary . But I know the path is still very long especially with those with multiple meanings..where is the magic bullet ? 🤣🤣 thanks a lot for your relevant lessons!
