I can’t thank you enough for making this video! l’m sick and tired of hearing that you don’t need grammar. and it usually comes from people who only have a basic level of English. I’ve always thought that without grammar you don’t go very far. You see evidence for this every day, everywhere. People who learn a language just by being in a country or watching TV will never be as good as people who actually learn grammar rules. But nobody wants to hear the truth. They prefer believing that you can learn on your phone with a silly app that doesn’t teach you anything useful. I’m so happy I’ve finally found someone who can say the whole truth so beautifully. I love grammar. I’m going to replay this video a few times because it’ feels so good to have a friend who agrees with me for once 😂 I love every single word you said! Good job! Ben detto! I ask my students to imagine a body without a skeleton. That's a language with no grammar. Learning a foreign language well, is a pleasure to appreciate in the long run. 😊

I tried learning English without grammar. Just focusing on natural conversations. But recently I realized it's not the way for me as I could sense that I hit a plateau. I'm studying grammar again. And it's not boring. I can feel the improvement. I love grammar.. 🇬🇧✌️

Dear Gideon you are right! If you want to build a solid house, you need to make a solid foundation, otherwise it will fall down sooner or later! Grammar is essential for learning a language well. It's really terrible to hear from people who have lived in a foreign country for many years but still make the same mistakes as when they just arrived ...

I totally agree with you. I tried learning german by myself but the whole process was limiting. Although I'd already had a good understanding of similar grammar systems, for instance, Latin, I could not develop to a higher level. So I got stuck but everything changed after I enrolled in a course and had a real teacher explaining the details of the grammar. I feel that it is like walking in the woods with someone to guide you and preventing you from taking the wrong path, what could be time consuming.

I have studied the grammars of multiple languages, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, German, etc. Because of this, when I listen to any foreign language, I might not have an ear for the vocabulary all the time, but I generally have an ear for the grammar. I can tell what's going on within the inner mechanisms of the sentence and how the words relate to each other. I've never been content with wanting to know only how something is said, I need to know *why* it is said that way.

The greatest compliment I can give you, is that I watch you videos, not for learning English, but just for listening you.
Just listening and enjoy. It does not matter what is the subject, you are talking about.
Last year I started to learn German from Internet, and decided not to learn German Grammar at all, or the minimum.
Maybe you are right. Today, I have great "holes" in the language, because my grammar knowledge is quite poor.

I'm not a grammarian, but I've done grammar 1 and 2 at college and my grammar teacher was amazing. He helped me realize how complex language is and that it's not made up of random rules, but it all has its logic

Down here in Miami, my students can survive outside the classroom without English as Spanish is spoken/understood virtually anywhere. I find that those who have first been to other parts of the country and picked the language are much more fluent, but their grammar is usually wanting and mistakes become fossilized, hard to eradicate. They do not usually do well in written exams and their use of tenses is a bit messy. That is the product of acquisition versus learning favored by Krashen.

You're right, grammar and conversation make you learn a language faster. With both you don't waste your time on the basic levels, and instead, you can spend your time on the hardest levels.
