additional fun fact: a woman named Violet Jessop survived both the sinking of the Titanic and the Brittanic, and she was on the Olympic when it struck a British warship but did not sink

I mean it's not really a mystery, it hit a mine.

Fun fact, the Brittanic is in less than 400 feet of water. So diving and exploring it is very possible. If only it landed upright like the titanic.

It’s said most of the 30 that died got on a life raft unauthorized and got chopped up by the propellers

Titanic: it sank hitting an ice berg or rock
Britannic: hit by a bomb and sank
Olympic: stayed okay but was scrapped

The Britannic is the same length, breadth, and height of the Titanic. But was heavier due to it being a hospital ship.

By larger sister he means the Titanic was 882' and Britanic was a whopping 883'. Also a mention that most of the 30 deaths occurred when one of the life boats got pulled into one of the exposed propellers. The sinking was so quick there was no time for the engines to spool down. Another cool fact, there was a nurse who survived both sinkings

a lot more people survived this one because the water was really warm and a lot of people died on the titanic bc they froze to death bc of the water being so cold

There would have been 0 deaths but the crew panicked and launched lifeboats too early while the captain was attempting to beach the ship, because of this the first lifeboat was caught in the spinning propellers there were now sticking out of the water

It's quite sad how the 3 sisters met their fate, though. Both sunk at the bottom of the ocean. One sunk deep 1 song chalo the other 1 while it got scrapped and torn apart.

Those 30 lives had about like 3 ways of death either drowning getting killed by the explosion or being on those 2 lifeboats that hit the propeller

Saying something safer than Titanic might not have been the best selling point

A picture of a 5-funneled white Star Liner?
Britainnic hit a mine. The reason death toll wasn't higher was that she had no passengers, only crew & staff.

One of my most memorable Dives 45-minutes on the bottom and over seven hours of in water decompression on a trimix rebreather. Like going back in time

She hit a Mine. Presumably a German Mine, but some people argue it could have actually been a British Anchor Mine that drifted off from Gibraltar.

The main reason why so few lives were lost is due to the water temperature. As we know, most deaths on the titanic were due to hypothermia, and many bodies were recovered, floating on the surface in their life jackets. The waters of the Aegean Sea, however, were balmy by comparison (68-70 F) some 40 deg higher than when the Titanic sank. More lifeboats were able to be launched too.

We should raise this ship. Would be the greatest salvage in history.

Also a fun little fact is that there's a lot of really good diving videos on YouTube about HMHS Britannic and they are both spooky and amazing

Robert D Ballard referred to the Britannic as a Disney shipwreck compared to the Titanic
