In Sweden we didn't have a standard mile for a long time. A fathom was the same (bigger the farther you got from the south),
The Swedish mile uses metric (of course, just the US promised but couldn't be bothered) and is 10 kilometres.
Funnily enough, peope up north think nothing of going 30 "miles" (300 kilometres) to a dance, while 2 "miles" (20 kilometres) is far away in the south of Sweden.
Weird, but an interesting fact :-)

I appreciate your sharing with us new things you have come across in your reading. I also like your attitude about the ancients - the opposite of the "chronological snobbery" C. S. Lewis complained about to which "moderns" are so prone to. I agree, the ancients were incredibly smart and capable. You have given some impressive examples. Like you, I can believe some of their approaches to problems could have involved something as simple as plain old virtues of patience, and perseverance. Thank you for another excellent video.

1:00 and we still use the word calculus for little rocks, when talking about kudney stones, or renal calculi (in PT: cálculos renais). ;)
