Is the Nikon D810 good enough for high ISO photography in 2023?

I look at the Nikon D810 at ISO 800 up to 12,500 to see how good it is at high ISO's.

I have a D7200, D800 and a D810 and they are all very good. The D7200 is excellent because the cropped sensor gives a lot of 'reach' with long zooms at airshows, car races and at the footy and when photographing birds etc. The D810 is really nice to use and when mounted with a lens is the same weight as recent high end full frame mirrorless cameras with a lens mounted ie. a mirrorless cameras have NO weight advantage. Carefully used the D810 is superbly sharp with excellent colour. And as Jules's tests here show, the high ISO performance is very good, but I rarely need to shoot in very very low light, so minuscule improvements in high ISO performance capability are not important for me at all. And not worth buying a new mirrorless body and all the necessary lenses to go with it!

Thank you thank you for this, it has saved me from doing a similar test. I use a D600, a D750 and a D800. I have been considering adding a D810, maybe trading in the D600. After seeing this, i am now seriously looking for a D810.
This was very useful

It is clean up to 1600, a little noisy at 3200, and I only use 6400 for grainy look B&W. The rest of it is not relevant to my style of photography.

I don't think that people need that much iso, even the night. Higher iso is comfortable with sport scene, but as people know, d810 is not designed for sport.

Would this camera be suitable for taking photographs of artwork?
