How to Connect 3 Phase Motor to Single Phase Power Supply / 3 Phase Motor Run with Single Phase Line

In this video, I have explained how to connect 3 phase motor to single-phase power supply. Three-phase motor can operate in single-phase power supply with the help of a permanent capacitor.

How to choose a suitable capacitor?
This is a very important decision making that we must consider about size of the capacitor when plan to running the three-phase motor in single-phase power supply. If not choose properly, it might be affected to motor condition and performance also can damage the winding of the motor.
Capacitor Sizes
1HP = 20-25 MFD
2HP = 45-50 MFD
3HP = 70-75 MFD
5HP = 115-120 MFD

Thanks for this, very interesting. I have been watching some youtube videos for education after I came across an interesting simple switch arrangement which allows a gear motor pump to go cw or ccw with a 3 position switch fwd/off/rev which closes 3 x NO connector blocks for fwd and the same for rev.

Thank you so much for the video, very helpful. My question is I am trying to wire up a 5 hp 3phase rotery converter. A three phase motor only has three wires coming out of it, and it has a box on top of the motor that houses capacitors I need to run 220 into it to generate that third leg of 120 V to get my 3phase power. I was wondering if you had a video they could show me which magnetic starter I needed to use and how to wire in on and off button. Thank you so much for any help.

Nice diagram! I'll try this on my own pretty soon. Won't it harm the motor? How much should be the value of the capcitor, and is the capacitor value related to balancing the amount of voltage going to each coil?
