If you only have single phase power at your house, you can still connect a three phase motor with this tutorial.

At last someone has finally told me how to do it and also the formula for the capacitor/power. I have been waiting for thgis all my 42 year working life. Very didactical and explicit like no one has explained before. Thank you.

To reverse rotation is enough to connect supply to other side of capacitor.
Delta config ports from left:
1 - power (live), 2 - power (neut.)+ cap, 3 - cap = left rotation.
1- power (live), 2 - cap, 3 - power (neutral) + cap = right rotation.
If configuration was changed to star You weaken motor substantially because lower voltage on winding section.

I Don't care how he spells as long as he is explaining the right thing and i understand him, thank you jean for loading this video better than not loading this video. and thank you tamas for extra information.

Damn, I've been looking in yt for someone who can decode this process for a quiet long time. Im glad ive found this. Thanks jean, you're new sub here

When the motor is running, use a meter to measure the voltages between the windings. Change the size of the capacitor to achieve similar values between windings.
Incorrectly sized capacitors can cause high voltages and damaged windings. When you have balanced the voltage across windings, like Jean said, it may be necessary to switch in
an additional capacitor to provide sufficient starting torque. Like Tamas said, motor will not achieve its rated power. I need to check how this modification will effect RPM.
Leave the terminal links in delta as at the beginning of the video. Just move neutral to the other side of the capacitor to reverse rotation.
As per A I Reid below - use an inverter for best results !

thank you for the knowledge. great video. only criticism i have is the capacitor wire you connected to U2 was wrapped on the post backwards. being an electrician you should always wrap the wire clockwaise so when you tighten the nut down, it will tighten on the wire and not try to push it out.

Excellent presentation with content. Simple language. Easy to understand.

If you need to run a three phase motor on single phase, get an inverter drive. This is an effective way and you will not lose any power as running on just single phase does. You get the extra benefit of speed control and inherent overload protection.
While the above will run it's not good practice.

This is the best explained video I have ever seen many thanks 🙏

Hi, this trick works for shot term. If you run your motor for an hour or two you will definitely fry it. Use a frequency converter or disconnect the capacitor with a simple switch right after the full revolution of the motor.

He just wired it wrong for reversing that motor, it will work but half the power of the other direction because he wired as delta for one direction and star for the other, the wiring is the same before but swap the phase and capacitor connection, now you have reversed the motor with the same torque, the capacitor value is approximately 8uf for every 100 watt of motor power, eg 60uf 1hp or 750watt motor.
