Small Oil Rig Guide | Rust Tutorial

The small oil rig contains no radiation and offers a locked crate and multiple puzzles. The locked crate will spawn a Chinook filled with Heavy Scientists ready to mow you down. However, when looted the locked crate will provide some of the best loot in the game.

I have already died at oil rig twice today with my best gear. One time to a scientist which bursted me in 2 seconds because i severely underestimated it, and the other time to a group who were currently clearing when I arrived. Now I am armed with another gun and thanks to you, new knowledge, so now I will go conquer the small oil rig. Third time is the charm!

I used this guide and before I even opened the locked crate I got a supply signal from a scientist; looked up the chances and the chance of a scientist dropping a supply signal is 0.3% :D

Earlier today, I attempted my very first solo take on this monument as I usually get carried by my friends. I brought with me the three cards, fuse, SAR, 120 rifle bullets, some meds, and a complete set of road sign armor. I began by sniping the scientists from my boat before entering and as I was about to change my clothes, I realized that the road sign armor would be of no use since the small oil rig was in a tundra biome. Wearing too much metal would deplete my health and hinder me from succesfully conquering this Herculean feat for a noob like me.

Fast forward to the time I hesitated to swipe my red card and begin my duel against the heavies, I said YOLO and pressed E. I opted to go to the 3rd level and bait them one by one. Unfortunately, I was not that great at dodging their shots or using cover to my advantage but I was able to finish them all. In fact, I thought I was gonna die since the rifle bullets I brought with me were running low and with one bullet left, I made a headshot and killed the last heavy. However, there were still four minutes left before the crate unlocks and I saw in the global chat, "solo guy on rig with a sar". I realized that this info was possible due to that person having a computer in his base in order to watch the CCTV. With zero rifle bullets and zero syringes in my pocket, I jumped off to the ocean without hesitation and barely missed my landing in the water. I rode my boat and drove off the distance.

However, that dive has caused me to get wet (hehe) by 100% which have caused a -26C on my body temperature. I realized at that moment that maybe death is truly inevitable for noobs trying to solo take this monument for the first time. I tried to heal up wih bandages but I ran out of cloth. Death was coming and as my health ticked closer to zero, I accepted my fate. Dead. I'm dead. All that effort... for death.

Epilogue: I realized I can buy another boat so I immediately went to the fishing village and I managed to collect my stuff. I got home unharmed and depot'd all my loot. It was a very fun and memorable experience for me.

I recently started playing rust and I know how to build bases and do basic things but monuments and puzzles are confusing and this wipe I have only gone to the supermarkets and the dome and then tried to do Train Yard and failed because I didn't know where the loot was and I stayed too long so thanks!

One word: railing! You can shoot them in the head inbetween the railing when you hide behind the crane. They'll not be able to fire back then, if you are carefull. They'll just gather under the floor your standing on, and their heads will be visible/targetable.

Lmao I got the game a few months ago and my first time taking it I couldn’t go. I was in a group of five and since I was the least experienced they left me behind. I was already at the beach so I swam all the way with a hazzy. Let’s just say they were VERY surprised that I climbed up and sneaked next to them.
