Forgiveness is in the interest of the forgiver. If the one who is forgiven continues to act in a toxic manner then it is that person who will continue to bring misery unto himself or herself. The one who has forgiven moves on and becomes happy as long as he or she continues to self improve. It's a win win situation for the forgiver and a lose lose situation for the toxic person who has been forgiven but refuses to reform.
