The Hundred Years' War was a series of conflicts between the House of Plantagenet and the French House of Valois. The conflicts arose because Edward III had a claim to the French throne and he put this to the forefront when Philip VI allied with David II of Scotland. This led to a number of key battles such as the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 under Henry V. The conflict eventually ended when the English realised the superiority of the French forces. This left England with only Calais in their control.
