Knights and battles, princesses and castles, sieges and warrior prophets who lead the way to victory upon shining white horses: all of these feel like the stuff of myths and legends. Yet the story of the Hundred Years' War contains all of these things, and it is a story that is entirely true.
The story of this war is made fascinating by its setting, but it is made inspiring by its characters. The Hundred Years' War changed the language, national identity, weaponry, and even the way that people think about war. There are many lessons to be learned from this war. Its tale is a cautionary one, but it is also a tale of adventure, battle, hope, and divine intervention. It's the tale of a war unlike any other.

Agincourt wasn't won due to the English longbow, it was won due to deceptively waterlogged terrain that bogged down the French heavy cavalry and stuck their armored knights fast in the mud so that the leather clad, nimble archers could move among the debilitated soldiers with their swords in relative ease, striking them down as they struggled to rise from the muck.

As always, British historiography dwells at length on the battles of Crcéy and Azincourt, a little on Joan of Arc (‘the French saved by a woman, LOL’), but never on the final years of the war, when they lost all their possessions on the continent thanks to the innovative tactics and reforms of the French. Who knows about the _compagnies d'ordonnance_, the Bureau brothers or the role of the dukes of Burgundy in Great Britain?

Great video, thanks. But the best book on the subject: "A Distant Mirror" by Barbara Tuchman. Without any doubt.

Good video, but I disagree with the notion that Richard III of England was deposed because of his pursuit of peace with France. I believe the primary reason he was deposed was that English nobility were no longer willing to tolerate his oppressive treatment of them.
