This might be the BEST Experience in WV!
Climb aboard for an Amazing Trip into the Wilderness and what might be the Best experience in West Virginia. This incredible day and journey takes place in Cass, West Virginia home of the Cass Scenic Railroad. @mattPG78 & myself spent the day not only rail-fanning their historic Shay Locomotives, but also taking a scenic and remote ride to the top of a mountain. Lets just say that these Shay Locomotives really know how to put on a show and the scenery was nothing short of breathtaking.

Now that's what you call a wilderness adventure! Did you enjoy the journey or the destination more?

I've been subbed to you a number of years now & your video's are ALWAYS incredible. So much to see & learn and you're a born teacher.
Remember the days when 'we' buds would all pile into your car & go on fun trips, while still really doing it all in the comment section of course but it was like we really were with you it seemed, many happy moments in deed.
It's great that folks still take care of and love the grand old 🚂🚃🚃🚃 trains and that they share that love of trains with folks today.
Thank you Jay for letting us tag along and share in your many adventures. God bless and take care. UNTO THE NEXT😘🍻"CHEERS"

that steam locomotive is one very majestic looking piece of machinery, what kind of genius even thought of designing these machines

My great grandfather was an engineer at Cass. My father lived in one of the company houses for awhile. For an awesome wilderness experience, you should stay at the caboose on Bald Knob. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful 💙💛

That is one of my favorite train rides. This year I did the Cass to Durbin ride this fall that being the 5th time to Cass. I love those train whistles sounds. They started a new train ride to the ghost town of Spruce, WV but I found out too late and couldn't get a ticket, so looking to do that one next year.

This is on my bucket list. I gave been to other train museums, seen and rode steam locomotives but it is nothing like this. The sound of the steam whistles always get me

I have a bucket list trip planned for West Virginia this spring, I am going to Blackwater Falls State Park. West Virginia is the only state I have not visited. I will have to see if I can incorporate some of the places you have visited, you have documented some some good ones.👍

The whistle sounds like my grandfather and relatives hollering between hollows or calling the cows.

First time ever seeing that type of locomotive. It was absolutely amazing watching and listening to it chugging its way up the mountain. The sound of the whistle echoing throughout the wilderness was just astonishing. I just closed my eyes and imagined being there. It isn't something that I imagine myself ever being able to do, but I am extremely grateful for videos like yours that with the sights and sounds puts me right there in the action. I truly appreciate the opportunity to ride along with you and hope you always continue the amazing work and energy you put into these videos. Will be watching my Gmail box for the invitation to the next exciting adventure. Until then stay safe and God bless.

A log skidder was used to pull logs that were cut, up to an unloading area along the tracks. It was also used to load/unload logs from log cars. Most of the track that the engines ran on was 11+ % grades which as you see is very steep. Shays weren't the only logging engines that could run up/down steep grades but there were 2 other types of engines that ran. They were the Climax and the Heistler steam engines which I noticed that Cass owns.
