This story is very much about the French revolution, it actually starts during the French Revolution.

Valjean goes to jail in 1796 before the revolution (1789-1799) has come to its historical end, he escapes 19 years later and thrives under the new Napoleonic code which is in place due to the revolution.

Napoleon is even in the book, not the musical though.

Everything about this story can be directly tied back to the French Revolution despite the fact that Bastille is not mentioned.

I usually stay away from musicals, but I WILL go see this. Looks and sounds awesome! You just can't go wrong with that cast.

With Hugh Hackman & Russell Crowe as leading actors in this new adaptation of this iconic period film set in the French Revolution, with the stunning production this film will be much anticipated and should-be a blockbuster when it's released around the world!

There is a "speaking" version of Les Miserables in 1998 with Liam Neilson and Uma Thurman. Personally, I prefer the book and musical as separate depictions. (I read the unabridged version of the book) The film was just okay for me but it missed so many important side plots. (i.e., the Thenardiers appeared in the beginning of the film, nowhere else, and basically had no personalities) The musical is my favorite of all time. You should listen to a soundtrack sometime. It may bring you to tears.

That's true. Although, I do feel that this could be an interesting change.. In fact, it may even work better because then Fantine would have reached an even lower point if this is after Lovely Ladies.

I can feel it in my bones that this movie is going to be epic

wait a minute, i just realized something!! In this trailer it looks as if her hair is cut when she sings "I Dreamed A Dream", but in the musical Fantine doesn't cut her hair until "Lovely Ladies".... but I could be nit-picking the movie that's not even out yet...

Without wanting to sound like a dick, I don't really need to be schooled on French history, nor on the book which I read in French for class, in France.
The reason for my comment is that there is a common misconception that the revolt described in detail is the French Revolution and I assume the person I was answering to thought that, because many people do. Obviously, yes, the French Revolution had a huge impact and is naturally mentioned in the book.

Well Ok then. I was unaware that this was a common misconception. But you did say it takes place during a failed 1832 monarchist insurrection. When in fact half of the story takes place more than a decade before the student barricades. You can see why I mistook what you meant. It seemed like you did not know your French history or your Victor Hugo so well.
