Front End Dev here! I wish someone had told me this years ago. So many people in my life told me developers needed to be good at math, but in hindsight, none of them were developers. 😂 Design, psychology, logic and mental grit are the skills I’ve found most valuable.

"No but yes." — I think that's the best answer I've seen to the question at hand 😋

Girl, RELATABLE. I never got into programming in school because I thought it was for “math people”. I went for marketing. I love it now and I wish I would’ve started sooner.

Not to be rude but hearing you struggle with math and was still able to program gives me hope

My BS in Comp Sci required a lot of math classes. Calc 1 & 2, linear algebra, discrete math, etc. One of the reasons math is so highlight in Computer Science is because the original programmers had math degrees. Computer Science didn’t always exist as a discipline. You don’t really need math to program (unless you’re doing data science/analytics, machine learning, etc.), but it is helpful. Especially once you get into the physical part of computing and you start competing against physics to build hardware that’s strong enough for programming. At its very basics, computer Science is math because computers only understand 0s and 1s. At the more abstracted level, you don’t really need it for everyday programming.

Great vid! Do you think you'll ever make a video talking about your experiences getting stopped by security guards at work? I work in NYC as well and have gotten stopped SO many times, by both work security and my friends' apartment doormen. I had a coworker also mistake me for a GrubHub delivery driver at work, asking if I were delivering their food. I think this part of the NYC experience is rarely ever spoken about publicly.

Could you make a video about how to make a resume for a software engineering position (especially for those who don’t have a CS degree/ didn’t go to a bootcamp). Did employers care/treat you differently because you were self taught?

I'm studying math and I realized I don't like it. I don't hate it, but I don't find it interesting. I want to drop out and find a jod in IT. Your vids give me motivation! Thank you ❤😊

I love your set today. Looks beautiful. I am about starting my DevSecOps journey and this was a good information

I started a software developer BA 2 months ago and was literally DREADING having to take math courses for it. There are no math courses in my program 🙌🏼 but this is probably the biggest deterrent I think most ppl that aren't good at math have before doing any programming. Thank you for clearing that thought up!

Thank you for being you and for creating this channel! You inspired me to pick up coding, I only started learning Python last week. I don't plan to be a software engineer, but I can see how programming could potential help me do my work more efficiently!

Thank you so much for this ❤️. This has been something I’ve been considering since I’m thinking of doing a conversation masters degree next year

I’m a physics major and have taken up to differential equations. I think I’ll be fine learning CS on my own :)

Thank you!! I grew up hating math because it was so complex and I didn't understand it at all. As a middle aged woman who's studying to become a software engineer, I was terrified of math because of my past. But you're absolutely right!! Since studying a type of math that deals with a subject I really enjoy probably helps but I found math and logic brains I never knew I had!! So for anyone thinking it's too hard, it's not. Just close the door to your past math self and be open minded to this new venture of learning math. You won't regret it :)

I'd say you need "applied Math". You need to know how it works, but not necessarily why it works.

It depends which route you take, if you’re going the college route a lot of engineering prerequisite courses are heavily math based. Such as calc, physics, etc. if you do boot camps or self taught route then taking math courses won’t be as big of a deal

What a well structured video
You gave a wonderful introduction, explained WHY math is useful, and for WHICH roles, added some of your experience from interviews and your job. You also gave a crisp conclusion and gave suggestions to those who fear studying mathematics.
Keep up the good work ♥️💫

I'd say yes, but don't think of it as a school subject, think of math as a list of tricks that all programming languages have build in.
