This Blender Example shows how to extract the normal of the face of an object and apply it as a rotation using the Capture Attribute, Align Euler to Vector and Instance on points nodes.

I nearly gave up until I finally found your video. I tried the very same thing for two hours but couldn't understand why my normal vector did not align the cones. Thats quite hard to grasp.

Yeah, try that for the instances with no rounded base and you will realize how badly it aligns. The only right way is to align it with the curve tangent.

can i get a normal from two points of a pointcloud? I have a pointcloud system and want to instance and align something along the axis of two points of the pointcloud. I have no idea how to get that information though. Can anbody help? I can get the selection done though. So i know how to get point A and point B, but how to get the vector/normal information between them.

bruh devs broke this in blender 4, no way in blender 4 to make something like that?
