Why do my chickens like to eat the snow?

I came into the chicken coop and saw that they started to eat the snow off my boots, so to show you guys, I grabbed some snow and brought it into the chicken coop and set it on the ground, immediately they started to eat it. Why do you think these chickens like to eat the snow off my boots? These backyard chickens are crazy and sometimes surprise me with what they do and what chicken food they eat.

I've seen my chickens do this, some chickens like the cold but do it mostly for the water content. Its a instinctual behavior and just general curiosity.

Our chikens eat snow when they are thorsty

My does the same for some reason I built a snowman with them and they attack it

If they are kept inside the whole winter it might be curiosity of what the snow is.

Ah that reminds me of my chicken Janusz, he was pretty much the only chicken that liked snow, but he passed away 1 years ago ago :/

Wait i think your chickens likes cold water so try this out for 1 day and see what happens
