The longboard surfing takeoff was not something I put too much thought into. Who knew it was this important?? Utilizing these three takeoffs have lead to many more noserides for me... hope you enjoy!

Man you nailed it, now I have a much better understanding of things that I did more instinctively for example, doing a half push-up when I start near the peak, and pop up later - always thought this is kind of kooky, but it makes sense

Wow i haven’t been watching as many videos lately but since the last video I’ve seen in a few months you’ve really improved with your cross stepping! And your positioning to get into the critical section is amazing! Go man go offff!

Wow, I just discovered your channel and your explanations are so clear and make so much sense. I'm pretty new to surfing and getting these take offs right is the next step in my progression. I'll probably have to watch this video at least 10 times.

I'm not a beginner - but one of my recent discoveries is that a "lazer focus" on the NOSE of the board IS a great help in making late takeoffs on less predictable beach breaks.

Dude, your channel is outstanding. I moved to NJ 1 year ago and surf your area spot fairly often. I've applied what I can to riding shorter boards and it has helped a ton, coming back from a 4 year hiatus. Thanks and keep it up!

Wow, wow - great video! Your really nailed it. A ton of information - summarized perfectly. Had to go back and watch it 2 or 3 times. The degree of angle you recommend on fast closing waves at the peak is extremely important. I have been playing with this and I have not taken it to level you indicate but will try. I see it gives you better vision on the wave so you can time your entry. And as you say, keeping that inside rail edge down into the wave is key. If you are not pressing in on a steep wave it will role you, ha ha been there. Bottom line -if your Longboard is aiming straight at the beach and you are going for a steep wave, you are probably going to nose it; because you need the angle to reach escape velocity and launch you along the side wave before it closes on you! I can go on and on about the info you provided but I will end with saying - I think I am going to experiment with the fade turn when I am caught too far out on the shoulder of the wave. It seems to me heading toward the power section of the wave and then cutting back to get in line with the break direction is a possible option for catching a wave on the shoulder where it has less power. Cheer from down under - keep those great videos coming :-).

Soy un Fan tuyo Man! I keep my 9' in Perú 🇵🇪, where I am originaly from, I live in DC. Next week, I am planing to drive all the way to Long Island NY, want to pass by Indian River, then by a good beach in Jersey where I would like to rent a good Longboard, Can you give me a good idea where to it?
Maybe I can see you in the water or buyingacupoffcoffe! Haha
Thank you for your commitment to the Longboarding, your time and dedication, awesom!

The first ride - the first 10 seconds, where you fade right and hesitate on the pop up - reminds me of an old Dale Davis movie with Butch Linden on several waves at Radar Tower in Oxnard (he was also a goofy foot). Butch always did that too, followed by the sweeping turn from the tail with the wide stance. Of course he had a D-skeg and had to turn from the tail.

Love this.
I learned the angled take off from a pro longboarder who was also giving one to one tuition. It's really worked and I also learned not to grip the rail's but keep palms flat under your shoulders. My pop up has never been swift and I always wait a second or 2 when in trim to pop up fully then remain low till engaged with the wave face down the line.
Patients is key, not rushing.
This video has taught me some new ideas tho and I need to practice getting into the pocket and staying there as I want to get proficient on the nose.
Great video, s, well explained and very helpful.

There are so many maneuvers that can be done on surf boards.
The fade n whip turn always look cool. But it's kind of on another level because for whatever reason it feels great to do.

Your video is spot on. This is an outstanding video that I will share with one friend now. I’m currently recovering from a foot surgery and not surfing for now but hope to do it again in the near future. Keep up the good work.🏄‍♂️

I love your videos! I’m still on a foamie. I’ve been surfing for 2 years but live far from the beach so I only get to go about 10 times a summer. Surfing culture I feel in youth is popularizing short boarding, glad your reppping people into longboarding like me
