The longest life is the air cooling hands down no leaks, no worries and no remorse.

AIOs "3 to 5 years at best." as my AIO is 6 years old! Probably just jinxed myself lol.

My H80 from 2011 is still going strong.

Although I love my full custom loop, I will say that a dual tower air-cooler is definitely more reliable and has a longer life. Even if the fan dies, if your case has enough air flow the CPU can still cool off. If the CPU needs to throttle, it will remain safe. If your pump dies in your custom loop, that can be a big issue real quick! Much more expensive and a pain in the ass to replace a water pump than to stick a 10 dollar fan on an air cooler.

I went with a large Noctua and rarely see temps higher than the 60's...and I'm running pretty graphically intense games.

Interesting, my AIO is going on 6 years old and still doing fine. I do expect it to give out in the near future though.

I had a Corsair aio, lasted me not even 2 years before the pump gave out. Have had a be quiet air cooler for the last 3 years and no problems since.

I have been on mostly AIO's for about 10-15 years now. Probably going straight air after this. It was cool for a while but id rather just keep it simple from now on

If anyone is wondering, you can easily cool CPUs like the 7900x and the 7800x3d with a dual tower air cooler. Single tower works too, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Almost every dual tower cooler is modified to fit your ram, and if you have a particularly tall kit, most of the fans can be rearranged or raised to not interfere at all.

liquid cooling is, for the most part, as unnecessary as RGB lighting. sure if you like it, do it. but don't really expect noticeably more performance.

I went with my first AIO not because my 5800X3D needed it, but for the aesthetics of my build. Not having a giant air cooler blocking half my case and having a low-profile, sick, customizable LCD screen made my high-end build look freaking awesome.

Enermax 140 AIO, I had for about 7 years, no issues at all :)

To make custom loops easier, go with parts from EKWB. I just did my first custom loop with one of their distro plates and it was way easier than I thought. Their configurator also spit out a list of all the required parts that work together out of the box.

Wonder when those AIOs started dropping off in lifespan. I had one of the original H50s and it outlasted the useful life of the AMD Phenom X6 1100T it was attached to, running over a decade problem free. It might still be out there running somewhere, I gave that machine away a while ago.

Main problem with air coolers for higher power CPUs make shipping a unit very risky. That large cooler on small pedisital has huge leverage as unit is shipped, tossed, and dropped.

"3 to 5 years at best" I must be lucky then since the basic 120mm I have still has lasted at least...6 years now! It cooled my i7 3770 before and my 10700K now, and the only part replaced was the fan when it started to rattle. Went from a 3 pin to a 4 pin noctua so it ramps with temp now at least instead of being full blast all the time. My next upgrade plans are the 14900K or KF or the gen after that with a 420mm but so few cases can accommodate a 420 top mount which sucks, I really want to top mount my cpu radiator and intake the air from the front panel. And don't ask me my GPU upgrade plans, I'm still on an ASUS 1070 OC with no plans to upgrade unless its an intel ARC or a used nvidia as I do not want to support paying the greedy green giant more money to rip us off.

Thermal Phantom Spirit 120 SE
IS THE KING for 35 dollars. (you dont need deepcool or be quiet, its gets worse or the same performance for the more money)

For AIO get Deepcool Ls720 or arctic ll

For custom cooling, you gotta do a big research, choose the best that fits for you

I bought a Noctua DH-14 way back in 2017 and it still works like new.

All coolers work at least 35% better if you add a generous coating of my new flavored thermal paste all over it. Trust me, I'm the best pro computer builder and the #1 League Of legends Yasuo player.

I had a 6 y/o aio that was working just fine. Sold it (along with the rest of my old pc) to a friend 2 years ago. Still works!
