Repeal 'Pay first, talk later' section in Income Tax Act, says Guan Eng

Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng urged the government to repeal a new section under the Income Tax Act 1967 requiring tax payable to be settled even if a person was challenging the assessment.

The IRD can and does instruct taxpayers to reconstruct their assets and liability positions, and their income and expenditures for each of the last 6 years. The required format involves a dozen or so spreadsheets. The almost certain failure to reconcile everything will likely trigger additional assessments plus penalties. That you have actually paid tax on all your taxable income is immaterial. Pay first and contest later. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

*To be honest*, Lim Guan Eng is both right and wrong in this situation. He is right because tax payer have suffer greatly from this 'Pay first, talk later' section. But this only apply to those SME (Small Medium Enterprise). Big Malay company however knows how to evade taxes in both legal and illegal ways. They even hired the lawyer and accountant to do so. Changing the Income Tax Act does not help the coffer, it only helps the SME to breath a little better (just a little). If LGE really care about the coffer he should instead put his focus on the corrupted big company and ask them to pay for their long overdue taxes(and make sure they *really* pay).
