Social Security should not be taxed, we already paid taxes on our salary!

Taxing Social security benefits are a shameful disgrace.

A bigger disgrace is the limits on income they place on those who need to take early social security benefits. They can't even make 20k/year without having their SS benefits reduced.

If the threshold to trigger taxes on SS benefits had been adjusted for inflation since 1983, there wouldn't be a problem for most people.

IT should never have been taxed to begin with.. I HOPE THIS STICKS and stays this way..

Would like to know how many of that 56% that pay taxes on SS are people like me. Widowed, had to take reduced benefits at age 60 to survive but have to continue working full time because the reduced benefits aren't enough to survive on either. Age 70 and 50% of my living goes to taxes in some form or another. So much for Golden Years.

They should never have taxed social security.

It's been said here, and I agree, they should simply change taxation amounts to reflect inflation.

It is absolutely amazing how the Social Security fund is always in danger of running out, but welfare always gets funded and recipients howl when the increase of benefits is cut.

double taxation with representation is a "norm" we've lived by for some time now??

Interesting idea but I agree with you the chances of this legislature actually passing both houses is right between slim and nun. Thanks for sharing this information.

Went back to work last year at a little part time job to supplement my retirement income. It put me into the 85% tax bracket and killed my tax return amount. So I quit 😁 Less is more comes to mind.

Don’t forget that SS was fine until the government started borrowing from it

As a self employed farmer, I had the privilege of paying both halves of FICA.

As a retiree I don't have a problem having a portion of Social Security benefits subject to income tax but the threshold needs to be raised and adjusted for inflation.

My aunt avoids paying taxes on her $3, 800 monthly social security check by giving much of it away to qualified charities. In her mind, and I don’t disagree, better to give it to St Jude Children’s hospital than the nasty federal government.

We can afford to open the borders, fly illegal migrants all over, give them phones, housing, food, baby supplies and on and on. Yet, we can barely afford Social Security benefits for LEGAL American Citizens let alone what Social Security pays out is taxed. We get hardly any return on the money the government garnished from our wages, if any for Social Security. I would have gladly taken the money and done my own investing. Great proposal from Angie Craig and in a time when it is sorely needed.

I paid into Social Security, have enough quarters, but I also worked for a school system that had it's own retirement fund, which I also paid into. Now Social Security reduces my payments because I receive payments from the secondary retirement fund. HOW IS THAT FAIR????

Yeah, I don't see this congress or administration doing anything that would benefit retirees who worked their entire lives.

Military retirement pay should not be taxed either.
