Very nice analogy. Solid video!
Only thing I'd add is that people shouldn't take it too seriously. The cover is about the book, but the book is not about the cover. Not everything you wear needs some kind of meaning behind it. If you just like something or makes you feel cozy, wear it!

Ahh yes, you know you're in for a good break down of French post modern, deconstructionist, new criticism when it opens with a discussion of Lolita

I really liked the non-fashion part of this video, of course it properly tied in and the traditional fashion bit was really great but there was something unexpectedly enjoyable about you just talking about book covers.

I’m still developing my personal style but i’ve made leaps and bounds since I started watching your videos regularly last year. You give great recommendations, but more importantly you’re teaching me to think about my fashion choices. Teach a man to fish, and all that. Thanks!

I think when the letters are imprinted rather than raised, it's called debossed rather than embossed

Excellent video as always, though I think one crucial element missing in the book cover analogy is the symbiosis that exists between the wearer and the clothes, where an excellent fit is one that flows from the wearer to their clothes. We cannot speak of a book's text ever being uncomfortable or not feeling a particular cover, and yet this dischord happens a lot with those who follow trends or pattern themselves off of celebrities. A Travis Scott fit often looks great on Travis Scott, but almost never on anyone else. The key points in clothing are intent and sincerity - a decade later, I still think Gosling's fit is better than Carrell's because one shows those qualities, and the other shows aesthetic indifference.

Finally, while a book cover or cereal box or painting will demonstrate a single consistent design language with the sense of a single guiding voice (the painter or head of a design team), a person can wear clothes whose clashing elements create a powerful image unintended by the creator of those distinct elements. Traditional school outfit paired with a stressed leather jacket creates an entirely different image with this element - rebellious, brazen, sexual. Similarly, a vintage novelty shirt with high end Japanese Americana jeans immediately becomes "ironic", the high quality of the pants signaling that the wearer has a sophisticated, jaundiced take on their top.

As an American who likes Stone Island, one of my favorite things to do is look for the badge in any videos of group fights from the UK Lmao. Almost always a badge somewhere in there!

As a classic menswear guy who watches your content to learn about other niches, it’s kinda cool to see it all come full circle!

due to my YouTube viewing habits I tend to fall off any given channel for a couple months then binge watch every video I missed, and by far I have to say this is one of your best videos I’ve ever seen. the pacing, editing, and subsequent story beats kept me engaged the entire time even though this video’s topic didn’t seem like something I’d be too interested in when I first clicked on it. bravo Antwon you get better and better every couple months I decide to tune back in hahaha

Super interesting video as usual, I really like this discussion/documentary format with the occasional memes.

I deliberately dress to give off a certain vibe. If I'm seeing contractors and working on site, or just hanging out I wear more street wear, hoodies and sweatpants etc, and more colorful stuff. If I'm going to a business meeting or going to my kids school events I wear more neutral colors and traditional siluets. But number one rule is making sure my clothes are spotless and clean, and they fit properly.

This approach to making observations based on little to no context reminds me of archaeology. Interesting but effective

It's been years I've tried to find a casual clothing equivalent to tacky vintage gothic novels covers (with the heroine fleeing from a castle in some billowy robe)... I keep trying !

I can see why people make the jordan petersen 'mistake' (barely want to call it that bc its subjective). I think the train of thought was, "ooh this is nice on camera. Oh, i gotta wear a blazer to keep myself looking professional though. This color works with this sorta, wow I look great!" and he should have instead recognized the constraints he must work in to put together an outfit. His constraint is he must wear a blazer, therefore every decision in making the outfit should be hinging on what blazer he chooses, and from there everything else will fall into place
