And to think we're watching this on our smartphone that barely scratches the surface of that price... I'm grateful.

Two things.
1. My parents had one of these things. I only had the "privilege" of using it once for 10 seconds. Why only 10 seconds? Because it was like $10 a minute back then. Hell it was still considered long distance if you called outside a 20 mile radius from your home. So these were only used in an emergency.

2. Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell made these phones look cool. 😂

It’s interesting to point out that the first paper describing a cell phone and how it would work was written all the way back in 1947 at Bell Labs. Bell labs has the most Nobel prizes for a private company and pretty much all computers and modern phones are built off of their invention of the transistor

I'm assuming the Swedish dude was Lars Ericsson as in the Ericsson Company?

Fun fact, the first guy to transmit human voice through radiovawes (and also increase the distance to multiple kilometers) was a Slovakian Engineer Jozef Murgaš, unfortunately didn't patent it fast enough but we do have his notebooks and blueprints

Just a small correction, the DynaTAC was developed in 1973, but it was only launched in 1983
