I’d recommend checking out YouTube channels like Hardware Unboxed for motherboard recap videos to get more information 🫡

The key is find the lowest price to highest VRM phase ratio motherboard. Locally for me on AM5, it was the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX (12+2+2)

B450 is good budget board for sure. Recently upgraded my mobo to a x570 but the B450 had similar capabilities just not built as well, has less usb ports and less pcie 4.0 lanes.

Prime B550-A AC is my goat for am4, it's cheap, has integrated wifi, a nice amount of vrm's and can handle almost everything you install

Im actually gonna have to disagree with you on the A520 board take zach, most A520s have good enough power delivery where the 5700X3D doesnt get held back with its relatively low tdp. Now its sort of hard to justify buying a new A520 because theyre roughly the same price as a B450, but anyone thats already on A520 right now for whatever reason can absolutely throw in a 5700X3D and not take any noticeable performance bottleneck, at least in my opinion.

I bought a b450m vdh max used for my brother, only 40 usd and it has never disappointed him. Quite old motherboard but good enough

I LOVE my ASROCK PG Riptide B650-M with my R5 7600x and RX 7800 XT!

I opted for the MSI B550m Pro VDH (Non-Wifi). It has 4 RAM slots, Gen 3 & 4 m.2 and decent VRMs. It works absolutely well. I'm not sure of it's over clocking capabilities however I'm not too fussed as I'm not planning to over clock

You should do a short explaining what makes a good mobo vs a bad (other than the number of USB ports and ethernet and nvme)

You always talk about b-450 and b-550 being okay but I have a b350-f gaming Mobo from rog Asus and I upgraded from Ryzen 5 1600 to 5700x3d and it's perfectly fine, it works like a charm. I don't know how much performance I'm missing though. You should do a video comparing mobos with the same CPU so we can see the difference daddy zach🤭🤭

I usually pass on the b450 boards for am4 and go with a b550 for several reasons like pcie 4.0, but if the client is on a super budget b450 is fine but gen4 stuff like ssd is way faster than gen 3. You can pick up decent b550 boards right now pretty cheap and toss like a 5600g in there for now, its step up from the 5500 plus your able to use the APU for now till u can afford a much better GPU later. You will have PCIE gen4 so many GPU options compared to gen 3 and the 5600g or gt is a great starter setup if gpu isn't in budget at the moment, It will hold its own 1080p gaming just fine with decent performance but don't expect miracles with it lol. Its actually a popular option for many of my client builds that are getting their kids first gaming PC or something along those lines, they don't want to invest heavily into a gaming PC just for the kid to loose interest in it or go console for strange reasons. So the 5600g is a good budget setup that allows for easy upgrade path and they get to learn too. Even when a big upgrade needs to happen down the road they will be more familiar with PC parts and may be able to tackle a motherboard/cpu swap themselves but if not of course i will take care of em. AM4 is still awesome and glad amd kept it going as long as they have though, very smart move on their part cause they are still selling so well and perfect way to get an decent entry level gaming PC without breaking the bank.

Another thing to point out with a budget motherboard is the horrible sound quality. The static and audio lag (white noise) is very noticeable on cheap motherboards. If you care about sound quality you will have a bad time with a cheap motherboard even for casual gamers
