In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Bichon Frise that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Companion Dogs
Weight: 7 to 12 pounds
Height: 9 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12 - 15 years

With compact bodies, baby-doll faces, and fluffy white hair, Bichons are a very appealing breed whose looks are enhanced by a perky, good-natured disposition. They are often mistaken for white Poodles. The Bichon, as he's affectionately called, is related to several small breeds: the Coton de Tulear, a dog who originated off the African coast on an island near Madagascar; the Bolognese, bred in northern Italy near the city of Bologna; the Havanese, from Cuba; and the Maltese, developed on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Bichons also appear to have originated in the Mediterranean and to have been taken along on trade routes into other countries.

Bichons may be small dogs — large specimens reach barely a foot in height — but they're hardy. Despite their diminutive size, they're not classified as a Toy breed by the American Kennel Club; instead, they're members of the Non-Sporting Group.

Bichons are always white (although puppies maybe cream or pale yellow), with black eyes and black noses. Their arched necks give them a proud, confident look, while their well-plumed tails curve gracefully over their backs. If you're looking for a wonderful family pet, consider the Bichon. This dog loves to play. He's always happy (except when left alone for long periods of time), and his demeanor is affectionate and gentle.

Because they don't shed like other breeds, Bichons often are recommended for people with allergies. This is something you should discuss with your allergist since not everyone reacts the same way to a Bichon. Before making a commitment to getting a Bichon — or any type of dog — be sure to spend some time in the presence of the breed if you have allergies.

Have a 17 year old Bichon we just love. Has had some health issues and his vet has written him off 2X but we just keep loving him and feeding him good food. He's an old dog but still a lover!

My bichon is so cheerful that she has helped lift me out of depression, but she is very active and demanding. Not quite the lap dog I expected. She requires a walk or two every day. Sometimes three times a day. 10 minutes each time. She is very social and friendly and I love her so!❤️❤️❤️

I miss my Bichon so much. He lived to 16 years old and he was the best dog I've ever had. He thought he was a full-sized retriever, and loved to play fetch more than anything in the world. He was trustworthy off leash, and the biggest people pleaser I've ever seen. We kept his coat cut very short because he was always getting into so much adventure outside he'd get filthy in no time. His hair was just barely long enough to protect his skin from the sun, and aside from that it never got any longer or we'd have been for EVER grooming him. He was also massive for his breed. He was tall and muscular, never overweight, but still weighed in at 24 lbs, standing at nearly half again as large as most Bichons.

Oh and Rudy LOVED the water! Though it might have been more about his OCD about playing fetch, I'd throw a tennis ball into the river at a swimming hold near our house and he'd fly off the rocks into the water and get the ball and come back and start barking at me to throw it again. He also became a good tracker, too, because again his OCD with playing fetch drove him to it. Eventually we'd get physically tired out of throwing the ball and we'd start hiding it for him, and he'd spend an hour (no exaggeration) looking for it, running around, sniffing, and circling back, until he was certain he'd found it usually up on a high shelf where he couldn't get to it, and then once he was certain it was there, he'd stand up on his hind legs and wave at the ball until we got it for him. Then we'd have to put it in an air tight container or he'd keep up his tracking all day long too. If an hour passed and he couldn't smell the ball, he'd finally give up and go lay down and sleep.

My Bichon is 11 years old now and we got him when he was a puppy, idk about all Bichons but mine always wants to be pet and always needs to be with someone or else he’ll basically cry. But he still has the energy like a puppy tho he’s doing pretty good

After 16 years of pure joy, excitement, and companionship, I had to put her down. Mimi developed kidney problems. She was in such in pain.. it broke my heart to hand her over to the vet for her eternal sleep. Losing her is like losing nature- it's been hard to breathe in here without her.

My little guy, Charlie, used to have his own mini armchair, where he spent a lot of his time as he got older. They are the nicest dogs you’ll ever have, and have such distinct personalities.

Just adopted a Bichon from the Michigan Humane Society. He was neutered the day before we took him home, but got an infection days later. We took him back. He stayed at the vet for a couple of days to clear up the infection. He's such a sweetie pie. We named him Bentley.

I have a bichon frise called Rory he is a fantastic little dog loves water and being outside, he is very comical because he loves to please. Bichons don't smell like most dogs do but they do take a lot of looking after, grooming - playing - walking. Rory likes to be with me at all times even at the bathroom. Worth having, he's a great little friend.

I have a Bichon Frise and Parson Russell Terrier mix. She is 11 years old and I just found out what she is not too long ago. Watching this video explains a lot about her. She rarely barks, half of her hair is curly, and she doesn’t really like to be alone. I could not have ever asked for a better dog, because she is my best friend.

We have two pups 4 months and 2 months and they are so fun to be with. We love them so much. People might say we were crazy for getting pups so close to age but so far we have no problem. To add they are very spoiled lol, love them!

We have enjoyed 2 Bichon Frise dogs. They had different personalities but we loved them both! What they had in commons was they loved to swim in the Caribbean Sea! They were both strong swimmers and did not mind a wave catching them before entering the beach. They vigorously shook the water off!
Our make Bichon loved to make up games and play them on his own. He would chase a tennis ball on the beach and let it roll down the beach retrieving it in the sea and run on the beach with his ball repeating it for long periods of time. He was such a love of a pet. Very intelligent!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
