Even if I choose Highest quality available in settings for all videos, YouTube thinks that 480p is the highest quality when there is 1440p as well -___-

Dumbest update I've seen in my life. If it ain't broke don't fix it YouTube damn.

This is one of the most frustrating updates for YouTube in a long time. I've heard the theory is that with so many people being at home, all of the streaming services are changing video quality to save on bandwidth. While I understand the need for it, I don't understand making the solution to just bury the settings further in to make it more difficult. The dumbed down settings make it feel like they are going full child mode.

It's lame because it won't override anything. if you go to a new video you have to choose the quality each time. "Automatic" is never 1080p. It's still always 720. Even on a 5G network.

Now every time I watch a video it automatically goes to 480p. :(

This is still an issue. I changed my settings to be "Higher picture quality" on Wifi and "Data saver" on mobile networks and yet I still get "Data saver" mode on most videos despite being on Wifi. I have to manually adjust the quality on every single video. So unbelievably frustrating.

I can select 1080p/1080p60 just fine, but the app just WILL NOT buffer videos if the resolution is set that high, or it'll take literally forever to do so... just wtf.

I never had this issue before. It happens with Wi-Fi too. Yet on the computer they process just fine. Really aggravating.

All videos are capped to 1080p60 for me it won't go to 4k60 even though I know my phone can handle it. This applies for YouTube and YouTube vanced (even with the override screen resolution setting on)

How come when I pick 1080p or 720p on YouTube iphone it doesn’t change it stays the same it will stay as 360p why is this?

Sometimes videos start at 720 p or 1080p and then changes to 480p and then in advanced option the highest quality is also till 480p.

A year later and videos are still often 480p, despite "higher picture quality"... Fuck Youtube

(Yes my net speed is ok and it loads fine when I manually change nearly every video to 1080p)

even if i choose the highest quality, it still doesn’t go to the highest quality and it still stays at 480p.

The fact this isn't fixed is absolutely abhorrent on YouTubes part. This has been an issue plaguing users for months and I'm looking into other video sharing platforms I can use that have a better user experience. I was annoyed 4 months ago when all my videos started showing in 480p, I've done everything I can in my settings and am a premium member but nothing has changed.

Every "new" update goes to the past. So the latest update offers automatically 144p, "newer" (understand "more modern") update will offer 72p, and so on. So after a few years you will have 9p and only black or white pixels, then only 1px white or black. The next biggest revolution in this will be no video pixel and decreasing audio quality the same way. So finally you will not even hear anything.

after an ad popping up
YouTube just wont show 1080 and 720 at all
its auto stuck on 480 until it buffering
