Can you rustproof an electric car?

Is it safe to rustproof an EV? Will rustproofing void the warranty of an EV? Can an EV antirust treatment be done at any shop? If you have an electric vehicle and have been wondering about rustproofing it, this video shows and explains the details about having your EV protected the right way.

A giant thank you to Steve Bolduc for opening up a time slot in his completely booked schedule, for the treatment of my Kia EV6. The objective of this was to create a video to help clear up the confusion some people have about having an electric vehicle treated with rustproofing. Specifically because some dealerships are misleading clients about it.

DISCLOSURE: I paid full retail price to have my EV6 treated. I was not paid, sponsored, or given anything to make this video.

Great information. Definitely not cheap. How often would this need to be done?

thank you so much for this information! as an old engineer from detroit, the one place in the world with roads as bad as your part of the world, i can agree with everything you said.

Thank you for showing the EV6 process, which has helped me prepare for spraying my 2023 Niro EV with FluidFilm. The job was easier knowing what to look for in advance.
I can corroborate the findings regarding the foam inside the fenders (below the cowl drains and at the top of the wheel arches). In my case, the foam was soaked and holding water: the plastic covering the foam was keeping water in the foam, not keeping water out. In the past, I have replaced fenders on VWs that rusted out exactly where the foam was making contact with the fenders' interior face. I'm leaving those foam bits out and ignoring any resonance they might have suppressed.

What a great video with a lot of informations. Thanks André. Do you think we could find some kind of that service around MTL and the suburbs?

Impressive amount of time and effort! Not a bad price for that much labor. I wonder where these people were trained? Is it a chain? I'm sure that your video will help get them more customers, so it's definitely to their benefit to have allowed you to film.

Thanks André for letting us see what is involved for that procedure! I had mine treated at a Montreal area shop that does pretty much the same procedure and I'm amazed at the product, especially compared to the old oil based rust-proofing I had done on my other cars (from the chain we all heard about here in Quebec, not to name names).

WOW!! That cheap for all that work. I live in Ireland and would hate to ask what that would cost here. Great honest vid. Now subscribed.

Great video and the guy you featured is one talented individual!
I can see why he is booked a year in advance....
I am lucky as I have a home shop with a car lift and I do my own oil sprays on my vehicles. I use many of the same techniques he used and I also learned a bunch by watching what he was doing.
We also have an EV6 in Runway Red on order and expect it sometime this summer. Our 2023 Kona EV has been awesome and we pile the mileage on. I totally agree oil spraying is well worth it as it will maximize the life you get out of a vehicle. We rarely get rid of vehicles and usually wring every last drop of usability out of them before they leave. We usually end up selling our cars on to friends who need a winter car as they know how well maintained they are.
About 15 years ago we sold our beloved 97 Aerostar AWD van with 490, 000 km to a friend for a winter vehicle...they are still driving it! The body has finally succumbed to the rust worm but that is because they did not continue regular oil sprays...but it is still running!
Anyway...Thank you for doing your videos they are great - especially the out takes at the end!

You should probably note that not all shops will allow the customer in the shop area during the application process.

Could you post photos of the mud guards once installed? I'm thinking of getting the same.

J'ai fait traité ma ev6 hier au même endroit. Merci pour le vidéo qui m'a fait décidé à le faire même si le concessionnaire me disait que ça allait contre ma garantie. Maintenant, il a un employé et ils en font beaucoup plus.

I wish car manufacturers would rust proof their cars the same way 🙂

I also don't want holes drilled in my car so I appreciate seeing an alternative rustproofing method. Maybe I missed this but how often must this treatment be done? Also, are certain manufacturers/models of EVs easier to do than others? Finally, any issues with breakage of plastic fasteners during the process? Even so, this was a great video. Thanks!

A great video again! Thanks! As accustomed to similar harsh weathers otherside of Atlantic as you, and soon getting delivery of new MY24 GT, I was wondering when I should take the rustproofing to my car first time? And how to make sure and perhaps argue about potential loss of warranty?
About the price: i think it's well worth it and sounds much cheaper there in Québec than here in Finland.

By the way: did you ever take protective coating to your car's paint? That's one top of my first agengas after getting the delivery. Took it to my previous nonEV car and that was well worth it.

Tu y a répondu.
