Bushi MATSUMURA lived in Fuzhou China for 20 years. He brought back his knowledge and reduced and simplified it to suit the shorter heavy short limbed Okinawa people.
He kept his knowledge and favorite methods within his own family and passed everything down to his Grandson NABE MATSUMURA who then taught everything to his last surviving relative his nephew SOKEN HOHAN.
SENSEI SOKEN called his direct lineage system;
“ SHORIN RYU. MATSUMURA ORTHODOX”
There is intense jealousy in Okinawa so you will not hear much about it especially since the practitioners won so many tournaments for 20 years and had almost exclusive teaching contracts on American bases because of the effectiveness and lethality of the system needed during the 1960-70’s SE Asian theatre

Don't leave out Kenwa Mabuni, the creator of Shito Ryu. Mabuni was also a student of Anko Itosu, along with Gichin Funakoshi and Chosen Chibana. Mabuni first studied Shorin Ryu with Anko Itosu, and then he became friends with Goju Ryu creator Chojun Miyagi, who suggested that Mabuni train with his master, Kanryo Higaonna, who created the Naha Te system after having trained with another Chinese Kung Fu master, Ryu Ryu Ko. Learning from both Itosu and Higaonna, Kenwa Mabuni created a hybrid style which combined Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu, and he named it after the last names of both of his masters - Shito Ryu. "Shi" from the Japanese spelling of Higaonna's name, "Higashionna, " and "ito" from Itosu.

The commentary is ruined by using the computerized voice resulting in many mispronunciations. Too bad.

I don't know who put this together but Soken "Bushi" Matsamura taught the family style to his grandson Nabe Matsamura and he in turn handed it down to his nephew Hohan Soken. This was the original Shorin Ryu Matsamura seito orthodox style.

1:50 Complete and utter hogwash. Karate was *NOT* developed by peasants or secret. All the legends of karate were of the aristocracy on Okinawa. Peichin was not Nakahara's name, it's actually a title. Karate most infamous street fighter, Choki Motobu and his older brother. Choyu were a members of the Ryukyuan royal family. Peasants didn't have time to practice martial arts. They were too busy working long hours trying to earn a living and pay their taxes to the king. Contact Jesse Enkamp, he's spent time on Okinawa training.

The narrator needs to learn the correct pronunciation of the names and styles. He really bastardized the pronunciations.
