In this episode of Hands-On Cars, Kevin Tetz shows you how to upgrade an old Chevy 10 bolt rear and brakes while working on his 1978 Camaro Z/28. Plus he visits Blast From The Past where they're building their version of a late 60s AMX Concept Car!

He welds the axle tubes to the housing with an Eastwood MIG 175 and then upgrades to Moser Street Axles. Plus he eliminates the open differential and replaces it with an Eaton True Trac clutchless locking differential.

The rear is sprayed with Eastwood 2K Chassis Black paint and protects the yoke with Eastwood Exo Armour.

Blast From The Past in Pottstown, PA is building a bunch of cool cars, including a late 60's AMX Concept car that's somewhat of a cross between a Gremlin and a Javelin.

The Camaro is then upgraded to disc brakes and QA1 Shocks.

The Z Sled is coming along nicely.  I always enjoy watching this guy.   You can tell he has never worked a day in his life.  "they say"  if your doing what you love, you never work a day in your life.   This guy loves cars "everything about them"   so he is living the dream.   Thumbs up to Kevin, and thumbs up to Eastwood tools that help him get er done.

Why would you make such an armature move and wait till you reinstalled the rear end for the internals and brake upgrade?

Should probably use a thread chaser rather than a tap to make sure threads are clean.

I love the AMX GT concept car. I've thought of doing it myself. But If he loves AMCs so much why the LS motor? You do know that a mild AMC 401 will make at least as much HP as that $9000 erod motor and be a heck of a lot more interesting. All that imagination and work is lost with that ho-hum engine.

I've never seen a correct ring & pinion set up on any of these TV shows. This guy made several mistakes. He never checked the backlash with a dial indicator and didn't show the installation of the crush spacer. That's just 2 of the many mistakes that I saw. If you are a first time rear end rebuilder please do not do it this way. And you should not put a differential in a vice like that.
