Insane Way Prisoners Plotted the Perfect Escape from Alcatraz

One of the most secure prisons ever built, this maximum-security federal penitentiary was located in San Francisco Bay to hold the worst of the worst. If anyone was going to get past the elite prison security, they would find themselves facing a perilous two-mile swim to shore in choppy waters. The prison was considered inescapable, with everyone who tried either being quickly recaptured, or sinking to their death in the water below.
Escapes had a 0% success rate - at least until June 11th, 1962. Here is the story of what unfolded on that mysterious date - day by day.

It's nice to see some different content which isn't related to the usual war or conflict. Great Video!

Wow, this is the first video I've seen in months that hasn't been about Russia, Ukraine, China, or the possibility of a world war.

The authorities were told that less than 12 hours after the escape, three men ambushed someone in the mainland and took the guy’s car away. This was kept quiet by the FBI since they wanted the world to believe the three men drowned

Glad that you told the story of all the prison escape attempts on Alcatraz and not just the most famous. Great video.

I believe they made it out and we’re smart enough to behave enough to never to be found or they were one of those never solved serial killer cases like the west Memphis case

So nice you’ve done a video about something other than Russia, feels like it’s been a long time.

They made it. I have no doubts. There was a Mythbusters episode dedicated to the whole Alcatraz debacle, in which they determined whether or not the escape was really possible. Long story short, it was, but it also revealed an interesting detail not considered back then. The reason the authorities never found those men was *probably* due to them looking in the wrong place. Our Mythbuster fellas paddled across the water in the dead of night in their cobbled-together raincoat raft, and found that the current had *significant* drag on them, meaning that Morris and company were likely swept off course, but the dilligent paddling of three men landed them elsewhere. Their plan had not gone south, but potentially *north, * and while this made things difficult in one way, the fact that they were expected to have landed on Angel Island right across would lead to them not being discovered.

You didn’t include the letter one of the brothers wrote to Police asking for a doctor’s help in exchange for one year in prison or the photo found of the brothers in Brazil with forensic analysis confirming it was them. The letter stated only one brother is still alive. Frank is buried in Alexandria, presumably Virginia under a different name back in 2005. One brother apparently died in 2008. Now in 2023 since in 2013 the letter said he had cancer. It is unlikely he has survived a whole decade with the disease. They are all three probably gone and dead now.

I think the brothers made it. Some people say the were double crossed and killed and buried that night after the escape.

I personally want to believe they made Thier way to Canada or Mexico and then to Brazil and lived out Thier days.

There has been a photo that has surfaced taken in the mid 70s from Brazil that is supposedly of the Anglin brothers.
Even forensic photography experts who have examined the photo say that it is most likely the Anglin brothers in the photo.

I love learning and I really like the low constant screaming AHHH" under the narrator's voice.

There are regular swims from Alcatraz to shore, swims take 20-60 mins. Tens of thousands of people have done the swim safely. Tides make a huge difference but there is absolutely the possibility that prisoners making it to the water could have made to to shore.
