How Brexit affects Northern and Republic of Ireland

It wasn't just London and Scotland where there was a vote to Remain last Thursday. The people of Northern Ireland also bucked the trend, leading to calls from Sinn Fein for a referendum on the re-unification of Ireland and advice from one leading unionist politican that residents of the north could protect their movements around the EU by taking up their right to an Irish passport.

I'm not Irish But i think the Ireland should Unify.
Why you still under a distant "Queen" when you have your brothers on the same island?

There is an alternative to going down the united Ireland or sticking with the UK routes, what about if Northern Ireland holds "county referendums" instead, so any county that wants to rejoin the republic can & the others, that vote to remain in the UK can stay in it. Wouldn't that be a better idea that might please more people in Northern Ireland?

I don't understand NI's eagerness to stay in the UK, at least from a pragmatic point of view. NI economically would be far better off part of Ireland. The UK created a failed state by partitioning off a small section of an already peripheral island. It goes largely ignored in the UK, now its going to have to leave the EU and create potential boarders between the republic. That mixed with potential falling of the UK economy will be disastrous for NI. Besides a few extremist most people in the North don't care about nationalism/unionism. Catholicism/Protestisim. We've moved on. Creating a new all Ireland state would probably be best for both countries, but especially NI. With the discussion around the future of NI we need to move on from the old argument no one cares about and talk about what a united Ireland would actually look like, economically and socially.

Now it means Scotland can leave the UK and N.Ireland can reunite with the republic.

A fine example of "Everything bad that happens is becuase of brexit"
I'd like to see one of those remain supporters name at least some European leaders, why would they know them anyway? They can't vote for them

The answer is quite straightforward imo and John Redwood hit the nail on the head with it. Ireland is fortunately not in Schengen either, and they have just as much an interest in keeping out Islamic terrorists as we do, so rest of the world immigration from Southern to Northern Ireland shouldn't be an issue. Then for EU people apart from Southern Ireland, we can have a permit / visa system for EU nationals, so they could not access legal work or benefits, unless they applied to enter UK lawfully and were granted leave to remain. Any employer flouting the rules would be bankrupted, and they would have ample warning of the new rules. Then if any EU national tries entering the mainland without these papers they would be sent back to their original country. For goods, these could be cleared ahead of transit, and if from S. Ireland for UK then no tariff (or reciprocal tariff is EU dictatorship forces them to put tariffs on our exports). A bit more paperwork for EU exports / imports, but no more than if they were exporting to USA for instance. If EU doesn't agree to this then they're being unreasonable and not going by article 50 wording. They've got to be fair. If not then we can implement our plan anyway. But we want our Blue British passports back, and the Government should be working on that right now - but I bet they're not!!

Prods/Brits voted leave. Catholics/Irish voted to stay. Time for a united Ireland.

If there is one clear message that comes from brexit it is that the English are saying to the perfidious Albion we are sick of having our interests subsumed by those of virtually every foreign body and country you feel you want to put ahead of us. The English rightly feel a need to finally assert their own rights after years of having them kicked into the long-grass while their politicians sanctimoniously play the politically correct game of fostering the interests of other ethnic groups at their expense. If the Scots want to remain in the EU they should also pursue their independence from the UK because we know it's only a matter of time -when most financially advantageous to Scotland - before Sturgeon and Salmon press again for Scots' independence. Thus, as the EU are saying to Britain, hasten your separation so we all know where we stand. The same applies to Northern Ireland if they wish to receive special treatment enabling them to stay in the EU although England have exited, why not also proceed at this time with unification with Eire which should both strengthen your Irish market and solve the EU border problem. Wales are at present standing with England re: brexit, but if the other two nations go their separate ways perhaps Wales might also want to consider whether it best serves its own interests to do likewise before committing to a continuing close relationship with England i.e. let us see this as the opportunity to settle all of the niggling separate nation issues together in one fell swoop so that all UK countries can forge ahead to realise their own individual destinies. Only that way will the English people finally ensure it is their own national interests that are the sole concern of their own parliament.

I believe if less people would stop looking for Pokemons and following "reality" shows and instead read and investigated what the European Union really is and how it works, they'd realize it's not that a big a deal.
There is life after EU
Eventually Ireland is more likely to follow Britain

Earlier this afternoon British time, the British government triggered Article 50, with the country's exit from the EU to come in 2019 barring unanimous agreement, by the British House of Commons and enough of the remaining EU member states' legislatures, to extend negotiations beyond March of that same year. The relationship that Britain and the EU will no doubt change should the hard Brexit that now appears likely indeed take place.

Republic of Ireland once a country in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1801-1922) it had its fair share of disagreements amongst the population and did want some change/Home Rule from the United Kingdom, that came in 1922 when Ireland became the Irish Free Sate and left the UK,  having it's own laws, regulations borders and new army. Northern Ireland was created for a predominantly proud British population! You guys give the UK and Republic of Ireland a break the Common Travel Area will not be affected.
