As a Tunisian, this video came to me as a surprise, a delightful one. Harissa is our national treasure and harissa mixed with mayo is known as Algerian sauce and its popularized by Algerians living in France. I love your spin on it mixing different types of chillies. However the traditional way of making it is with hot chillies, garlic, salt and coriander basta!! Harissa for me is best eaten with extra virgin olive oil and hot bread. So simple yet so delectable. Loved this video Laura.

What a surprise!
In The Middle East precisely the gulf countries, we have a traditional food has the same name "Harissa" هريسة but it is so so different than this one.
In the other Arabic countries such as Egypt, Syria, they also have "Harissa" dish which is a sweet we call it "Bas bo sah بسبوسة"

I must say, I never bought Harissa from a store, always prepared my own using chili, smoked paprika, olive oil, caraway seeds and cumin etc. The thought of using ancho as the chili never crossed my mind. I love ancho and I think this must be so good. What a crazy fusion!

I am Mexican/ Italian but I only speak Spanish and a it of English. ( i understand a bit Italian)I never eve hear about this dish and I know about out dry peppers in Mexico. I love cook and try new things and I can’t wait for this one. Thanks Laura ❤️

Harissa always seems to be on my shopping list. The jars are small & I go through it so quickly. So good to have a homemade version now too.

Thank you! I've been needing this for recipes for a while now but could never find it or bring myself to buy it just for a tiny part of a recipe. I'm sure homemade will be so much better!

I have been using harissa in my cooking for about a year. It is great for flavor. I marinate everything on it. Also when I make fish or chicken shredded.

Wonderful recipe! I use a Belazu Rose Harissa with rose petals in the ingredients. I'll try your recipe both ways-- with and without rose petals. Thank you for the mayo tip too.
