Gulpers | Fallout Lore

Thanks to Season 1 of Fallout there’s a new creature Cooper calls a Gulper, for those who haven’t played the games, then you might not know that Gulpers already exist in Fallout, however they are slightly different to this new kind of Gulper. Before the show Gulpers were merely mutated hellbender salamanders, aquatic amphibians transformed by radiation caused by The Great War.

I kinda like the idea of “Gulper” is just a catch all term used by Wastelanders for large creatures that swallow you whole.

I recently learned that scientists use axolotls in labs for they regenerative abilities. So it makes sense why the Hawthornes would use them as a blueprint.

The fingers inside the creature are pure nightmare fuel.

It's likely that "gulper" is just a generic name that refers to unrelated but similar creatures, rather than any sort of retcon. As for the uncle comment, if they're part human, potentially even using genetic data from the mother, it's entirely possible one of the babies could have been his great uncle.

Only Fallout could turn a cute axolotl into nightmare fuel.

I felt like the uncle line was more that he was implying his uncle was a gulper rather than turned into it. I might have to rewatch that scene again

I'm not sure his uncle turned into a gulper, more that because gulpers were birthed from human hosts it technically 'was' his uncle while being a gulper. They get human characteristics from their host mothers/whatever gene splicing goes on with the embryo, but I don't think that anyone already fully human got the treatment.

I interpreted what Benjamin said about the gulper being his great uncle to mean his grandparent gained mutant half siblings when their mother was forced to give birth. which is crazy disturbing to think about. I think that event is shown in the lab footage Lucy finds.

At 0:34, never noticed old Longfellows 4 extra fingers on his right hand until now…

Fun gulper thought especially with local folklore considered there’s a creature meant to describe rockslides that’s a giant catfish that i think ties in with the gulpers origins and gameplay

Anyone else completely haunted by the TV show Gulper’s origins?

im inclined to call the axolotl variant seen in the show as "albino gulper"

Cooper Howard first notices what looks like a clutch of eggs, which is what made him aware of the presence of a gulper.

So it seems they can reproduce.

Just imagine how badass/terrifying a Gulper Leviathan would be? I really hope that if there is ever another Fallout it focuses on what we’ve never seen before- under the radioactive sea.

I suppose if there were invisible gulpers, we wouldn’t know 😳

I was hoping that the one in the show was a Centaur of sorts. I guess all Aquatic Animals in Fallout share the same name like various Mirelurks. 🤣

Mire Magic Moonshine is one of my favorite consumables in Fallout 76. Having +4 Strength in the Vintage version of the drink is very useful when overencumbered and need to fast travel to the Whitespring Mall.

I wonder if wasteland names are just catch all, like all salamanders or similar species are just called gulpers. Same way Mirlurks are just a catch all for any crustaceans mutant, one gulper in one region might not come from same species in another but if it’s similar enough it might just be easier
