Fat Shaming Motivation by Doctors Does Not Work! Effects of Medical Fatphobia
Fat shaming motivation by doctors and other health workers can cause significant problems.
In some cases, it can go beyond hurting one's feelings - some cases of misdiagnoses because doctors assumed symptoms were a result of a person's weight have been reported.

In this fat-shaming short film, we look at the ways health workers could fat shame their patients.
This could include the use of body shaming speech or as a form of tough love motivation (tough love weight loss motivation).
However, health workers also have a responsibility to advise their patients about weight loss when it is necessary and share our knowledge about the risks of obesity to health.
We also look at how best we can support people to lose weight or provide weight loss motivation in ways that are constructive and support them on a successful weight loss journey rather than fat shaming them.
Chapters:
00:00 - Introduction
02:26 - Attitudes of some health care workers to overweight people
04:20 - The Effects of fat shaming
06:30 - How to change HCW attitude to overweight people
