Political strategist Dr Michael Turner says Rishi Sunak’s plan for mandatory national service is an idea that “sounds good but plays out poorly”.

It is just over a month to go until British voters head to the polls for an early election on July 4.

“It’s certainly something that’s reflective of the electoral situation that Rishi Sunak finds himself in,” Dr Turner told Sky News Australia.

“He needs to play to his base so Reform ... aren’t able to eat into his vote.”

You should never make people do anything. Give people the ability to choose and with that comes logic and incentive.
An exceptional leader markets their proffer providing rationale and benefits. It does not punish, shame or dictate.
A dictator is not a leader.
They are a bully who throws tantrums when they don't get their way. They cannot be trusted because their behaviour is predictably unpredictable, potentially unnoble, self serving and a contradiction to liberty.

They’ve just imported hundreds of thousands of military age men from incompatible cultures so I guess they’ll need a bigger army soon.

You have to look at how other countries - tackled this problem. Germany had the best solution during the Cold War. You did your national service. If you objected - you did twice as long - in a job that - had to be voluntary. So if you do two years national service - then four years as a volunteer worker. And that sorts out the problem - of those who don't to serve in the military. And national service also to bring - benefits - like - university or other courses paid for - as part of the deal - once people exit national service.
