Why Kakuna is Banned from Gen 3 UU (Yes, really)
On Pokemon Showdown, Kakuna is banned from Gen 3 UU. This is not a joke, and the reasons may surprise you

Scizor has 0 bst over Scyther, so Scyther is kinda a fully evolved Pokémon in function.

I feel like scyther was allowed because scizor wasnt really a better scyther. It had the same BST, but different typing and some extra moves.

I think they should do what they do with other Smogon formats, and just test it. Even if it's just a month or two, let people play it out and then at the end have a vote to see what if anything changes in the meta. If I had to personally wager a guess, you might see some Haunter play, Kadabra is currently in BL so Idk if that would be tested or not. Lairon, Diglett and Trapinch, maybe a goofy Clamperl or Pikachu set as well, are about the extent of what I could see, can't imagine much else from the Gen 3 pool of NFEs that might do something in the tier. Even then we're really just down to "Hey wanna try Haunter out", it's worth a shot

Honestly, I want them to reconsider the NFE clause because it’d possibly lead to an overhaul of the ADV generation in general. It’s kind of preposterous how many UUBL Pokemon ADV has.

I really don't think adding NFE's would shake things up that much. Kadabra's already on the UUBL, so the only ones I think might have an impact are like Grovyle for fast sub seeding, Dragonair, Haunter, and like maybe Skiploom if you are running sun (which idk if sun is any good in adv uu).

I don’t see why not. It IS a relic of the past, but that argument goes both ways. We can let the old demons lie and look ahead, or we can shake up a very old metagame for more people to join into.

Sword and Shield is pretty firm, at least in the upper tiers, and BDSP is considered a side thing, last I checked, so why not?

Now, if they’re really on the fence about it, do unbans in small chunks. Put the most prevalent NU mons into UU first, then trickle other NFEs into the metagame using hindsight from later gens as a basis.

It can just be a side thing, not like it’s pressing or anything. And when new people play old metagames, there’s sure to be some post-mortem strategies to them (ie: Smash Melee meta keeps evolving despite being so freakin’ old) so why not let people experiment?

Only issue I could see with unbanning nfe’s is the introduction of chansey to the meta, but the community could ban chansey specifically. I don’t think any of the other nfe’s would be harmful to the meta

ADV UU is a stable, fun meta, if a little odd. The NFE clause did do exactly what it was supposed to, because UU is completely separate from OU, and adding NFEs isn't going to instantly improve the tier.

To be fair, haunter, chansey, and Kadabra are both very strong Mons and would probably be very good in UU if legal. I can’t say they would be the best three mons, but they would be absolutely meta warping.

The main reason Scyther was allowed in UU is because Scizor is (or was I'm not sure) in BL and just a fringe Baton Pass user in OU, apparently outclassed by Mawile of all things
