True story. I was in college and my car was totaled. So I needed a car since I was commuting to school not living on campus to save money. Had 300 dollars, went to a used car lot and bought the only 300 dollar car, a 1978 Volvo tan station wagon. It had the rare 5th gear electric overdrive that used a switch on top of the shift knob. Anyway, it had 250k miles, on it, I changed the oil and put brake pads on it. Got another 250k on it before the body started falling off it. It had just over 500, 000 miles when it was sold for 300 dollars back to the guy I bought it from. Well a couple guys were restoring a late 70s Volvo and contacted the guy with my old one with the rare overdrive and they went to open up the engine and transmission but saw they looked great and simply put new seals in it and called it good, this was for a higher end restoration. The old Volvos rocked period!

"It's not fast, it's not fancy. It's just an honest car."
Best line to sum up the story.

I own a 1992 740 wagon. It has over 420K miles and driven daily. It’s been in my family since new. No rebuilding of engine or transmission. Has never had valve cover removed. No accidents and paint is still in great shape. Driver seat will need recovered but rest of interior is great. I have been to 38 states in it and to my knowledge it has never needed a tow or left anyone stranded. I recently purchased a 1993 240 with 126K miles. It is in great shape and service records from new. I got it as my sons first car. If he takes care of it no doubt he can pass it on to his kid someday in the future. These cars were built to last a lifetime. No car will ever be built like these again. I will drive these until I’m no longer able to drive.

Volvo was probably the most underrated brand from the 70´s to 90´s. So innovative in so many fronts.

That was probably one of the bestest incorporated ads I've ever seen on YouTube, shows you guys actually approve of the company sponsoring you and don't take it as a quick money grab like a mobile game ad lmao

My 92 240 wagon has 700 000 Km on it.
Never left me stranded. I put over 500, 000 of those Kms on it over 8 years.
It's now retired and am going to get it back to new condition.

Yo my dad just told me a story about how he got in a crash in Italy. He borrowed his friends 1981 volvo instead of driving his fiat because it couldn’t fit the tv he bought. But anyway he got in a crash at 82km/hr. The doctors said he only survived because he drove a Volvo

On this car the crumple zone ends at the first wheel, while on the fiat 126p maluch it ends at the engine

Which is at the back of the car

There will never be a more reliable car than a Volvo 240. My parents had a couple of 240s when I was a kid and a 760 turbo passed down from my grandmother. Every single one made it over 300, 000 miles with basic maintenance. The 760 turbo was finally scrapped in 2014 with 518, 000 miles and not because the engine was junk but rather the body rot from all those New England winters. In fact the drive train never came out of that car. It even had the original alternator Just unbelievable cars.
