It’s just like Marques said on MKBHD: Good phones are getting cheaper & cheap phones are getting better.

This is how you should review a phone. You should always cover what to expect in the future after using a phone for quite a while. Would love to see more budget phone reviews like these.

Watched this on my own A53 and have been loving every minute with it (owned since Black Friday '22). I came from having owned the A50 for three years, with no issues, loving everything about it. Main reasons I upgraded were the two extra gigs of RAM (I work in film/TV prod and do a lot of multitasking during the day), 5G cellular connectivity, improved cameras and stereo amp speakers. Don't listen to the bad reviews--speakers are great, fingerprint sensor is great (MUCH better than the A50), car calls are great... for the price, this is exactly what I was expecting. I plan to get at least three years out of my purchase.

Been using the A53 and A52 for a hot minute now and this phone is exactly what most people need. Blown away by how low it has flown under the radar with little or no people in my friend network owning it. Crazy nice phone. The A52 was almost even better since it had a headphone jack which was super convenient to have.

love the "why is everyone buying" series, and now that you have a proper test lab i believe is going to get even better for pc peripherals

This line of Samsung phones has been a hidden gem for the last few years. I have the A52 and it's nearly identical except it has a slightly smaller battery (and a headphone jack). It still feels snappy, and I still easily get 2 days of battery life after using it for almost 2 years.

Since most people will use a case with it, adding wireless charging is less than $20 and you just put it between the case and the phone and it plugs into the charging port on the bottom, works great. I’ve got one on my Samsung A Series cell phone. It is called a “USB C Wireless cell phone charging adapter” make sure you get the appropriate amperage for your phone.

Just watched this on my own A53....and being a power user that loves customizing and using every inch of power i get, i have zero complaints about slowdowns or slugness....also worth mentioning that the face recognition and the fingerprint issues along with other bugs were already fixed on their usual software updates...at least where i stand. When i picked it i was going for a phone that could last me 4/5 years and thats what i got.

It's nice to see big channels like you guys cover cheaper phones for once.
My mom has been using an A50 for almost 4 years and it's still great, the battery life is absurd, even more compared to my note 9 (practically the same age)

I bought this phone off the shelf at walmart for $250. Love it. Pretty much everything in this review is spot on to my experience. Cool to see this phone covered in a LTT video! Also loved the recent budget monitor vid you all did.

I'm a Sales Manager for a UK mobile network. The A53 isn't a hot seller. It's actually the much cheaper A13. Most average people just want something that does the job without the expensive price tag.

I think tech enthusiasts like us tend to forget that we're a niche demographic. Not everyone shops based off GSMArena specs. Most people just end up getting the S22 instead. That's because S prices are heavily subsidized by Samsung so they become the better deal.

I really liked the A52s which I recommended to one of my friends almost a year ago. It was basically an A53 with a headphone jack and a better chipset. It was also cheaper. Shame they didn't carry those features over to this one

I remember how mind-blowing it was when flagships started costing around $500. Seemed crazy at the time, but now things have really gotten out of hand. My last several phones have been mid-tier $250-$400 phones and they've been great. One of my favorites was the TCL 10 Pro.

I recently switched to a flip 4 but I've had 2 A series phones within the last 7 years and they are amazing budget phones. Alot of them look better than flagships too (and more options for sizes with good cameras)

Spot on. I traded in to Samsung my ancient Note 4 for the A53 at launch at a big discount and after getting over the loss of the pen and the headphone jack (bought Bluetooth buds) I found it well built, great battery life and does everything well. I don't play any games on it so no worries about the CPU or GPU power. Videos look great on it. For recording videos though, the Note 4 had better mics. I enabled the new battery preserver mode that a software update delivered, limiting the max charge to 85%. With the big battery in it, you still can go well over a day on a charge and don't have to stress the battery by charging to 100%. When the battery does age, you can switch off the limiter to eek out the battery a bit more. Still... wish they'd bring back removable batteries, like on the Note 4. I changed the battery twice on it and so could use it for many years until the OS was just too old and unsupported.

I've got the A52 5G and one of the main selling points you didn't mention was how Samsung is giving 3 major android updates then an additional 4th year of security updates. That is what pushed me to get the phone.
I believe the A53 is even better with getting 4 major android updates.

I really like how you took the time to address reviews one star category at a time and addressed the common themes in each ... I usually find this to be the best way to use reviews, but don't know anyone else that takes the time to be that meticulous separating the wheat from the chaff (then again, it doesn't exactly come up in conversation often)

i own a a53 as well, and i love it. it feels premium, the camera's amazing, i love One UI and it has exandable storage which is so good. couple of problems i have, is that it does lag a bit sometimes, closing apps and such (it never hangs tho), and the camera shutter speed is kinda slow which sucks, but keep in mind, my phone is now a year old and it has 92/128 and 56/64 (SD) storage filled, so that could be it as well. i got the 8gb ram version for $390 which I'm happy with.

Also my mom has the same phone and hers does not lag at all which could be due to the fact that her storage is barely filled.

so overall, a solid buy

As a former A53 and now S23 user, one of the first things I am changing in the settings is to manually turn on the bass boost. It makes the phone's speakers sound way better from the lowest volume to max. half the volume. On higher volume the bass kinda turns down a bit to how it sounds without bass boost on, due to physics (because there simply isn't enough space for that much bass in any phone).
