Interesting as always! that's craziness about the sinkhole! I've never heard of that in our area at all.

Some of our issues are exactly the same as the ones you mentioned! The original part of our house was built in 1920, with 2 additions on the back. Our electrical box, etc., was updated prior to purchasing the home, but we discovered that only the visible parts of the electrical were updated, so in the end we still have to redo all the wiring throughout 😅 not fun to discover lol.

I'm glad at the end you mentioned that new builds aren't all sunshine either! There's a lot of great charm in old homes and if you put in the time and effort, they can also be in great condition.

Wow. Didn’t know your home was that old. Thanks for this video and for your transparency. This is so helpful.

Thanks for your video. A bit of kindly advice- show us the sinkhole.
What did a plumbing issue have to do with it?
What electrical system do century homes have? Again, you were not clear. A fuse box attaches to what type of system: knob & wires, aluminum, etc.

The same with a foundation: 18 blocks, slab, etc.

Key takeaway:
Due Diligence (research).

You must be learning a lot with your century home, but at a cost! Grateful for your words of warning ❤️

While real estate is almost always a very safe investment, especially over time, it’s always a good idea to set money aside each month because something is going to break at the most inopportune time. I had a water heater AND a dryer break within about 2 weeks of each other. And it was at a time I had a lot of other expenses (just paid property taxes & some medical bills). That being said, I’d always rather buy than rent because, as I mentioned earlier, it really is a good investment. You just need to plan. Murphy’s Law seems to be most applicable in home ownership.😂 Thanks for the insight on owning an older home!😊

The new construction comes with issues. After .5 yrs. The floors u can hear each time someone walks. The doors frames can start rotting away ect

These are some of my worries, older homes are less expensive but the probability of risk and up keeping sounds like a bitch!

I want to vomit. My offer for a 150 yr old home was accepted. No inspection.
