I'm southern born and raised on a farm. I've never made my tea this way, but I'm open minded and will definitely give it a try. I make tea like my mom and grandma did....water, sugar, and tea bags in pot on the stove until its a rolling boil and sugar is completely desolved. Remove from heat and allow water to cool and tea bags to steep, remove bags and add water to pitcher then add my tea to the pitcher. Willingly to try this way and the ways from the former comments. Thanks all! Be blessed

I’m in West Virginia this is exactly how I’ve always made Sweet Tea 🍵

The baking soda kills the bitterness of the tea, but I always put 1/4 teaspoon in the measuring cup with the teabags then pour boiling water in and let it rest until it cools down then I add the sugar and cold water.

Lived in the south my entire life, and I dunno what you're talking about. Never made a syrup, never used baking soda.

Great to know bc down south, we love our house wine AKA sweet tea.

I’m in the south and we don’t make a simple syrup for our tea. We steep the tea and then pour the hot tea over sugar. I might have to give this way a try though.

Have you ever made sun tea? That’s my favorite.

To add, flight attendants use club soda to take the bitterness out of their hot coffee!!

My grandmother always put 1/8 tsp of baking soda in her tea. Lots of southerners know that trick. It’s nothing new folks. It takes the bitterness out. Maybe it’s a NC thing?
