That map isn't very good. It shows a couple of places from the more distant past, but then leaves out Guinea Bissau and the Indian possessions, which were around into the twentieth century.

The Portuguese empire never existed with the extension you show in the map.
When Brazil was Portuguese territory (i.e., until 1822), Portugal only controlled a few coastal towns and trade posts in Africa. So, showing on the same map Brazil, Angola and Mozambique with the same size they have today is absolutely inaccurate.
Only in the late 1800's, with the "Scramble for Africa" did the Europeans ventured deep inside Africa, so Portugal only moved inland in Angola in Mozambique from about the 1880's to the 1910's.
I'm Portuguese.
