How did Brazil Become a Country?

Once Portugal realized that this newfound land was on their side of the Tordesillas line, the initial goal was to establish a settlement with a focus on monopolizing trade, particularly of the widely popular pau-brasil redwood trees.

Brazil was supposed to have been a great super power, it had the manpower, resources and knowledge but always politics will ruin everything

It might be worth mentioning the Gold and diamond discovery in the XVII in the Mines region, since it truly shaped the country we see today: made Rio relevant as the export city, attracted about 40% of portugal's population to move into Brazil, founding cities such as Vila Rica, Diamantina, etc and shifted the economic power to the southeast. At the same time, it financially supported the Portuguese crown in rebuilding the country and its efforts to centralize power as Rio became the center of the maritime empire.

Good summary of Brazil. I've been intrigued with the country and the Portuguese language since the early 1980s.

I liked the animations, but you skimmed through major events that cannot be overlooked. In 1815, the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal was effectively moved to Rio de Janeiro, and, as such, when the King decided to return to Lisbon, it was perceived by the local elites as a demotion. Hence why they supported the independence movement and the subsequent war (1822-1823). Pedro IV's (later Pedro I) wife was the daughter of the powerful Emperor Francis I of Austria, and she had ambitions of becoming an Empress of her own. He left the country because his father had died and he believed he had a legitimate claim to be both King of Portugal and Emperor of Brazil (and eventually reuniting both countries). Only after 10 years of his absence, the Brazilian crown decided it'd been too long and seated his son, Pedro II, as the new Emperor (at 14 years old, not 5 as stated). Then you jumped all the way to 1889 without mentioning the most important war in South America - the Paraguayan War, that solidified the national identity - and the liberal reforms to slavery (1850 - ban on Transatlantic slave trade; 1871 - the Free Womb Act; 1884 - provinces were allowed to ban slavery on their own). You also did not mention that both the 1871 Free Womb Act and the 1888 Golden Law (that effectively banned slavery country-wide) were signed by Pedro II's daughter, Isabel, who was widely disliked throughout the country. The 1889 coup was a direct response to her actions, as she was the heir to the throne. If conciseness was of concern, there was no point in citing anything afterwards: there was no concern of its independence henceforth. By 1930 (next point in your timeline), Brazil had already fought in WWI and become a founding member of the League of Nations. If you're going to talk about coups in Brazil, you'll need another video since it happens every 20 years or so.

Brazil borders most countries in South America with the exception of Ecuador and Chile. it is one of the largest countries in the world along with the United States.

It’s amazing how Portugal 🇵🇹 managed to maintain such a large territory from the envious European powers

1) Iberica Union was also very important to change Brazil's borders.

2) Pedro I didn't have the idea of independence by himself. His father, the king, gave the idea for him, predicting that if their family didn't do so, somebody else, less wise, would do it anyway.

3) Brazil has not declare its own kingdom before the independence. It was declared UNITED Kingdom with Portugal, with Rio de Janeiro being the capital.
