I really appreciate that you talk about your mistakes in a lot of your designs, unlike some other youtubers that make it seem like they get it perfect the first time. It helps remind me that mistakes are normal and will help me learn!

Oh no MakersMuse is a human...making mistakes. But a decent one to admit and share! Thanks being so honest and for the update

Very good video and channel. Here I come with another mistake :) The clearance as you calculate it is fine, but keep in mind that this is not the exact curve, meaning the one that removes the minimum amount of material that allows your system to work. You are using the radius of the big wheel. In fact, this is the clearance you need if your small wheel were static. Since your small wheel is spinning at the same time, the actual cutout may be tighter. If you do the math you will arrive at a curve, which is roughly a circular segment with radius that of the small wheel. In fact, using small wheel radius with center at the knob is a great approximation.

I need more of these videos. I had no idea parametric modeling could be so fun.

One thing you didn't note: when creating the cutout, you made a circle of the same diameter as the driven wheel, centered at the centre of the next sketch circle defining the next idler curve (sorry, I have no idea of the actual terms for these parts and surfaces). This only works because you were doing a mechanism with six stations per rotation. If you had seven, or four, or any other number, you'd need to do this with a couple more constraints. Namely, the center of the circle defining the cutout would need to be along the line between the drive wheel hub and the peg centre, at a distance from the drive wheel hub equal to the distance from the driven wheel hub to the drive wheel hub. On a six-sided driven wheel, this happens to be coincident with the centre of the circle defining the next cutout in the driven wheel. But not so on others.

Your videos are making me want to invest in and get into 3D printing it's such a cool technology and it has so much potential in the future so thanks so much for helping me see this!

Good followup. the method to cut out was even more elegant than the one I came up wit myself - and I did learn a few new tricks from the original video too, even though it had its flaws ;)

Great videos, and great updates! Thank you for being fallible, and letting us learn from your mistakes as well! Great work on these cool older mechanism designs!

Thank you very much for making this video about the mistakes.

pattern feature works a bit better than a pattern sketch in fusion at the moment it is another thing to look out for, when you do the animation have it going cw and ccw

I did notice something that can be a little different from the sketch. The depth of the slot does not have to be as long to the center of the driven gear. It only needs to be the OD of the driven gear to the OD of the drive gear. Going from the center of the drive gear makes the slot longer than needed.

Thank you for the amazing videos, always like watching your Fusion360 tutorials/designs because you learn new things all the time.

Hey atleast you accepted and corrected your mistakes, keep up the amazing work.

I think you also missed the clearance between the bottom plate of the drive wheel and the driven wheel. Right now they touch each other perfectly in the CAD. This could be compensated in the mounting frame of course.

Hey Angus, What do you think of the MakerGear M2 and/or M3? I have an M2 and i'm not going to say my opinion on it, but I have not heard anyone say anything about Makergear.

could you do a review on the newmatter mod-t i have seen joels review but i would like a second opinion. i have seen the printer around and have debated buying it but i am new to 3d printing and was wondering if it would be for me. thank you.

Have you watched the documentary "Print the Legend" on netflix? It details makerbot and formlabs and their printers. I would love if you talk about it or do a review about it. They did an interesting way on presenting charts of company growth in a way that fits the narrative really well.

Hey Angus. I was wondering if i should get a 3d printer and try this out. I was looking for something no more than 800 dollars. I was thinking about the Prusa i3 MK2, and i think i am going to get it, but before I do, do you have any suggestions for a printer in that price range? Thanks.

Hey maker's muse are you aware of any printer that can print wax? The idea being 3d print wax for lost wax casting.

Are any of the TurboCad products any good for modelling to 3D print? I was thinking of the 2017 $150 TurboCad then saw the 2015 Pro Platinum for $245. Any ideas?
