This is what those tutorials I followed early on never mentioned. "Circle and triangle" for the head and chin can only get you so far.

I won’t lie I think this is the biggest problem with Lumis’ original depiction of his method, he doenst really specify how much to cut off from the side of the head, which throws all of the proportions off. It’s why references are important for any method as they inform you on how much to do things like this by a solid reference.

This is what i did not understand in Lumis method. Like how far inside i need to place the other circle. What i was using was method of someone called doxy where you first draw cube then circles onto them

Holy shit this is legit exactly what i needed. Figuring out how to define the sides of the head was so difficult that i'd spend more time re-drawing the same circle(s) then i would actually trying to draw features

I would say the 2 most important landmarks to learn how to draw a face in any angle are: the joint between the neck and the skull + cheekbones.

i use boxes for heads and im still not sure if im using them correctly, could you please make a similar short about that?

For the longest time, i was making a curved line for the side of the head by “rotating” it from front view to angled view. The elipse created this way looked really ugly. Deciding the starting point of the side of the head from the center, then making an elipse by matching the center elipse makes more sense

I actually know a French guy who doesn't do this and just uses a sphere and his art is GORGEOUS. I personally believe that all artists have different methods, and that this is just a suggestion for improvement.

I think it's easier to make the circle fit the face from the front and then extend it to the back later. You can even find the base of the jaw like this
