Sir William Wallace  1270 – 23 August 1305 was a Scottish knight who became one of the main leaders during the First War of Scottish Independence. Along with Andrew Moray, Wallace defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297. He was appointed Guardian of Scotland and served until his defeat at the Battle of Falkirk in July 1298. In August 1305, Wallace was captured in Robroyston, near Glasgow, and handed over to King Edward I of England, who had him hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason and crimes against English civilians. Since his death, Wallace has obtained an iconic status far beyond his homeland. He is the protagonist of Blind Harry's 15th-century epic poem The Wallace and the subject of literary works by Jane Porter and Sir Walter Scott, and of the Academy Award-winning film Braveheart. #shorts #forgottenhistorychannel

Real william wallace was a moderately wealthy Scoto-Norman noble.

Almost all the lords in scotland were Scoto-Normans, descending from Norman and Flemish families.

They and the soldiers wore chainmail and padding not kilts, as kilts didint come into existence until the 16th-17th century

After reading about Edward 1, what was really shocking is how they tortured Wallace. They really made it look soft in the movie, still he took it like a man and the English couldn't break him. 💯

I hate it when people diminish historical attempts of moviemakers. Every little detail is not going to be accurate due to the fact of the era and year in which the events occurred. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. We need to pay more attention to this substance in the basic facts not every little detail, such as him not going to Rome with his uncle Argyle. Who cares. William Wallace did in fact start the revolution for the independence of Scotland and Bruce did in fact take over once he died. There was, in fact, the battle of Stirling led by William Wallace. There is actual insect evidence of people going to battle in the era, wearing war paint, whether it’s blue, or not, who cares. The basic storyline is true and that’s what most of these movies try to portray. To dismiss a story or a movie because it’s not 100% historically accurate is disrespecting the movie and the actual events that actually did take place. Again, don’t worry about the petty details. Worry about the actual substance. In this case, the substance was actually historically accurate.
