Still one of my favorite movies if it’s accurate or not.

Your telling me that Mel Gibson didn’t travel back in time to fight for the scots?

"In the year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets; they fought like Scotsman, and won their freedom."

Ironically, the nickname braveheart in history was actually attributed to Rober the Bruce himself.

The reason the writers changed Wallace's wife's name was because they thought people might think they were ripping off Robin Hood if they'd kept it as Marian. Also, I think Wallace's best friend in the movie was meant to serve as a stand in for Andrew De Moray.

Random information: Elvis Presley's manager sold "I Hate Elvis" badges as a way to make money off of people who weren't buying his merchandise. Genius.

There's a statue of William Wallace in my town and he got married in a graveyard about 7 minutes from my house.

Despite inaccuracies it's about the only movie I can watch back-to-back. Long live Wallace!!

As a Scotsman, it's not plaid, it's tartan.

Also....Scotland is pronounced Scot-land, not scaht-land. A's are not O's, and Os aren't A's!
America, please.

This movie was truly a film of its time. No general audience in 1995 gonna take a trip to the library to fact check these bits. If this came out today, these writers would be cancelled into oblivion for rewriting history. I couldn’t even connect any bit of this research into Braveheart. It’s just so different in every way to what actually happened.

As a Scottish infographics fan I am so glad you have covered this! Most of us hate this movie in Scotland for all the inaccuracies. We are very proud of our scottish identity.

William Wallace! I read the best book ever written about his life. His life in a way was more intense then the movie! I bought it at the Wallace Momument in Sterling. We should never forget James Horner. Wrote the soundtrack for Braveheart. Greatest movie ever! And Wallace was a true Hero!
