Wallace is condemned to public torture and beheading for high treason. Even whilst being hanged, drawn and quartered, Wallace refuses to submit to the king. As cries for mercy come from the watching crowd deeply moved by the Scotsman's valor, the magistrate offers him one final chance, asking him only to utter the word, "Mercy", and be granted a quick death. Wallace instead shouts, "Freedom!", and the judge orders his death. Moments before being decapitated, Wallace sees a vision of Murron in the crowd, smiling at him.

Braveheart is a 1995 epic historical medieval war drama film directed by and starring Mel Gibson. Gibson portrays William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish warrior who led the Scots in the First War of Scottish Independence against King Edward I of England. The story is based on Blind Harry's epic poem "The Actes and Deidis of the Illustre and Vallyeant Campioun Schir William Wallace" and was adapted for the screen by Randall Wallace.

The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards at the 68th Academy Awards and won five: Best Picture, Best Makeup, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, and Best Director.

When he yells freedom, you see the peoples eyes close, that's your body closing and your spirit waking up.

I remember when i first watched this movie, it took me by surprise. Im not the type of guy who cry watching a movie. But this, this movie made cry like a little girl. One of the best movies i've watched.

One of the best parts about this scene is when the Irishman closes his eyes. Like it's music to his ears and like he's never had more respect for a man, ever, than in that moment.

Murron appearing in the crowd is absolutely genius. So sad and beautiful and eases his horrific death for us.

He knew he was gonna die when he saw his wife Marion. At least he's reunited with her once again in a peaceful world. RIP William and Marion Wallace.

This reminds me so much of my first wife. She was taken away in 1994. Whenever I see Braveheart it reminds me of her. I keep thinking of the moment when William Wallace is beheaded and he sees his wife and they are reunited. If that happens to me on my death then all the pain I have been through since the day she was taken away it will be worth it.

What I also find compelling about this scene is how moved the official seems to be after William cries out. He gives the order with a degree of melancholy and dare I say- quiet admiration.

I always liked how even the torturer guy in red seemed like he respected him in that last moment and stopped the torture and told them to just finish him.

One of the greatest movies ever made imo. Such a beautiful ending too as Murron joins him.

When the public realizes he got more balls than anyone else here. They broke his body but couldn't broke his soul
